I don't have a data plan because I have access to wifi almost everywhere. How do I make sure that the BB doesn't automatically try to use the network while I'm browsing is for example I happen to lose my wifi connection?

I do the same thing. Make sure you browser is set to the hotspot browser, then under options, advanced options.TCP I went and backspaced through all the info there. I asked a att rep first, and he said that I could always come in and he would put the info back in if I needed him to. I called att and had them shut my data off to make sure. They might tell you it won't work to use wifi then but I'm doing it right now and do not get any data charges..

You can also go to Options -> Mobile Network, then you can select WiFi only. But then you also have to go back and change it to preffered if you need to get back on network.

go to options, advanced options, applications, highlight browser and hit the blackberry button, go to "edit default permissions", highlight connections and hit the blackberry button again, go to "expand", set carrier internet and company network to deny.

Then try to use the internet with the wifi off. If it doesn't work your probably good.

I want to do the same thing. On Bold. Use only wifi, not my expensive 3G roaming in Canada (I am from Singapore).

But when I disable the mobile network in options, I cannot use the wifi at all either.

What should I do? As per instructions by another user earlier (lordcliff) I went to "Options --> Mobile Network" but there is no option called "Wifi Only".

set data off when roaming, and turn on wifi, you are all good

    HELP!

I have a non-roaming BIS Plan from STC (Saudi) and have been using my Bold internationally via wifi. I was getting all my emails, messages, etc. until I replaced my SIM card to see if I can still get all services via wifi using a local SIM. Of course, it didn't work. However, upon re-inserting my origianl non-roaming Blackberry SIM card, I noticed that the wifi sign is gray and I am not receiving any emails. I tried re-registering (Host Routing Table),sending Service Books, etc. but no luck. Please let me know if there is anything I can do as I am not returning to Saudi for at least 3 weeks.

    Thanks

im not sure what you mean by advanced files....im assuming you made a backup file before all the sim card....try overwriting with that first.....if all else fails wipe and reinstall

    Yes I did.

However instead of wiping all (messages, contacts, calendar, etc.) I was hoping that I can use the advanced function in Backup/Restore and only overwrite the relevant files to ensure that I can maintain my most up-to-date information.

Basically, rather than wiping and restoring 2-3 day old information for everything, I want to keep the phone as-is and only restore, selectively, the necessary files. But I don't know what are the necessary files that I need to restore. Basically, the 2 things that I seem to be missing are the files that normally appear in Host Routing Table and the icon that takes you to the browser page where you can add/edit emails. The email icons are still intact.

Would you know which files I need to selectively restore, rather than restoring all the old files.

    Thanks.

    Larry:

    Hey. It didn't work :-(

Any other way; besides sending my phone to Saudi, so someone can turn it on, re-register and send it back.

    Thanks

Yeah. The problem is that I am unable to get the Host Routing Table files to appear, as my Blackberry Plan is Saudi based and not roaming
