On my windows mobile phone, I had voice command which would annouce my calendar appointments 15 minutes before the event started. I thought that was pretty handy.

Yes, open your calendar event and set a reminder.
For the "tune", go to your phone sound profiles and you will have the option to change the default ring tone for calendar events to waterver you want. Ringtones, MP3...etc..
Im sorry, I meant more that if I have a 3pm appointment called "Rich walks the dog"
At 2:45pm the BB would announce in words "Rich walks the dog".
My windows mobile phone was able to do that. It was handy to hear an appointment as a reminder.
Check you the app called Vlingo. THey have a free trial. I am not using it but I've heard it was good.
Reads emails, texts...etc.
And you can also dictate and it will type for you.
