I never gave it a thought but the price of the Z10 has been dropping in a weird way..
    In Egypt.
The Z10 is available at the biggest retailer for 2500 EGP (375$)
While the 9900 sells for 2999 EGP (430$)

How come the 1 year old Z10 retails for less than the 3 years old 9900?!-img_20140518_123836_edit.jpg

I think it's because BlackBerry made too many of them. They over forecasted the sales. Now they are trying to move inventory.

    I could be wrong.

Because they probably still sell more Bolds than Z10s.

Well if they cut the price of the Z10 then they should cut the price of the 9900 even more.. it doesn't make sense Lol

They manufactured way more z10s than were sold. The z10 is one the best bargains, and I've pickup two of them for under $200 each (one for my wife and a 2nd one to back up my q10). For my usage pattern the z10 is an incredible device, very good hardware matched with a superb operating system. These devices will easily last 3+ years.

Anyone have a guess as to what the manufacturing cost was for the Z10? Not including R&D. I would guess around $200 per unit. Since they have already written them down, $200 per unit wouldn't be too shabby to recover some of the cost.

The answer is why BB is keeping that phone alive. It's outselling the Z10 and therefore is priced higher. If they can squeeze a few more dollars out of it by charging a higher price and it's still selling then why not?

It's cheaper than anything with the same specs.
I would personally buy a spare one if I had the money...

sadly there is more demand for the 9900 than the Z10 which has been part of the problem, user conversion from physical keyboard devices to Z10/Z30.

    Yes, simply supply and demand.
What baffles me more are those prices in general. As far as I can see that 9780 on the left sells for almost 300$?

Are you condemning the STL-100-1 just because it has no LTE?

Because I feel that that is a **** poor remark. If anything, the GPU in the STL-100-1 is far better than the Adrenos in the STL100-2/3/4s

You guys have the Texas instruments OMAP.

I'm totally not trying to fight but I live in Texas and have used Texas instruments my whole life...

I feel they should of made them all Andreno. Though the CPU isn't all that great, you did get a very good GPU as you said.

They had to use this chipset since they were going with no 4G/LTE.

I think it just makes it harder to keep updates in line when their lineup is fractured.

Yeah, in dubai they where down to aed 900 ($250) . And as soon as the news came of the new production run they went back to the range of aed 1499 to 1799 in the retail shops ($416 , $ 499).

I remember my first TI reading set. LOL. But that aside.

BlackBerry at one point, to differenciate themselves made a very exclusive pact with TI OMAP. This was I think during the PlayBook era, and the rush to get the first BB10 done.

Somewhere along the lines, TI entirely abandoned the SoC market, and declared that they were going into the embedded market. BlackBerry got screwed REAL HARD, and had to revert back to Qualcomm chips. A complete re-engineering.
