How can I get rid of the Low battery icon?

I have a really really OLD BB; probably 6yrs. I couldn't remember the password so looked for a forum and came across this site. I've now wiped the BB completely and hopefully it will sort out the security issue.

However, the problem I had/have (haven't used in 10mths) is that even when the phone is on charge, the top light flickers in yellow/orange and constantly says "battery low". Is this salvageable?

If it's from 2010, the battery is probably shot.
