I am new to OS6. If the theme I choose has a row of icons on the bottom and I have my BB set to show "no icons" in setup, will the icons still show up? I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. Hopefully someone here will know.

I think that mostly depends on the theme itself. Some themes are OS6-based and will use your theme settings; but many are completerly different with their own look, feel and functionality, and those are likely to work by their own rules. Unfortunately there's no really good way to tell without actually installing the theme. You could also try asking the individual developers, who should be able to give you an idea of how they work.
