With BBM payments, why bother with NFC?

Let's say you're at a store you make your purchase and you get a receipt and the store has a BBM channel PIN or whatever it is and the PIN of the receipt...so all you have to do is open BBM, message the channel/store the PIN on the receipt and the amount.

Sure NFC is convenient when you can wave your phone but every store has to buy an NFC reader. Look at Square, it's starting to replace traditional credit card reader, but BBM can replace all that. Stores just need a phone or a tablet to receive payments anywhere you don't even need a receipt actually just the screen showing you the receipt and PIN, once paid, you have all you receipts on you BBM.

This would be a terrible idea. there is very little encryption on BBMs. NFC has gone through a LOT more testing (for mobile payments) than other things.

It's a nice idea, but I would think there are some logisitical hurdles that would make it tough to ever see come to light. If anything, I think we'll see a more global version of BBM Money come out at some point in the future, as well as see BlackBerry try to market the NOC as a potential network for credit card transactions.

What are the hurdles and encryption? They're doing it right now in Indonesia between individuals why not for businesses too?

Not only a bad idea but this is hardly something that would "save" a company that provides enterprise services and makes smartphones.

It's not a good idea to try to implement something that people need to invest in even more, i.e. a phone or a table that a store would need to purchase. What incentive do they have to even consider something like this let a lone buy a bunch of hardware.
