    Hey There,
I am a new BB user. I just got 8320 last week. Iam having trouble connecting to WIFI @ home. Every time i try to connect to a hotspot i get error msg saying "Reason: fail to associate with the network". It is an unlocked at&t phone. I tried connecting to hotspots with and without SIM card and still have same problem. At home, I am using DI 524 router. and iam a pay as you go customer with Rogers Wireless. Can someone please help me out with this problem. THanks alot!

I have a simmilar problem. I have an unlocked bb from tmobile that I now use with rogers. I was able to connect to my wireless network at home but I still dont think that I am using the wifi when I am home. I am pretty sure its still using data from my plan. Is there a way to tell when you are connected to wifi?

If I understand correctly, you have an unlocked AT&T 8320 that you want to use with Roger and enable UMA.

There are two parts to solving this, the first is the connection to your DLink Router which is 802.11g compatible. Use the Wifi Connection Wizard to try the connection, when it fails:

Connections / Wifi Options. Menu / Wifi Diagnostics.

A successful connections will display the Status message Network Acquired.

If you are not successful, there will be an error message that may help troubleshoot the connection problem.

Second, your AT&T Curve is not factory provisioned for Rogers UMA. If you were to buy one directly from Rogers, it would work correctly.

You can manually upgrade the provisioning and acquire the correct security certificate. I will guide you through that process once you solve your connection issue.

Yes, if everything is working correctly, you will see "UMA" in the upper right corner of the display. If you are seeing EDGE, you are not using the Wifi connection.

I also have a T-Mobile Curve. With the correct provisioning, it does work with Rogers network.

Thank you Reed for your post... The msg i got for the WIFI connection error says " Device failed to associate with AP"
I was reading at some posts earlier, they mentioned something about MAC address of BB device, could that be the problem since ive didnt introduce my BB to the router?
Also, i dont have a data plan for my phone iam jsut using "pay as you go" which is a prepaid plan... because i didnt want to sign up for a contract unless i know for sure that this BB works.
    THanks again for the help!

Device failed to associate with AP.

The best way to trouble shoot Wifi connection problem is from an Open connection. Adding in security is simple if required because you are changing both at the same time.

Check your router docs, most have a button you can hold down for several seconds to force a reset to factory.

If that is not practical, you can use your Browser at 192.168.1.1 to review and update indivdual settings until you can connect.

No problem with a voice and text only plan, you will be able to use the Hotspot Browser for Internet access.

I reset my router and remove the WEP security and i still get the same error msg
"fail to associate with tthe network".
I went to starbucks few hours ago and checked their hotspot and i was not able to connect to their network either...
I borrowed my brother sim who has a data plan with rogers and neither the WIFI nor the Rogers browser works on my phone.. I dont know whats wrong with it!
Everytime i get the same error msg iam just so frustrated with this.
When i clicked on the WIFI status, i get "Fail to connect to AP"
DO you think it is the blackberry problem or just the network? I may end up return it if i got figure this out
    thanks for the help tho!

What about resend serivce books.....what's your apn set tp on your phone?....probably disable apn make sure you have wifi enabled and manually set up the connection...also make sure rogers hasn't crippled your wifi since your prepaid and don't have a data plan

my WIFI is enabled but when i check the connection options i can see that the wifi sign on the list is yellow not green. so definitely its enabled. Also, what is the APN? why do i need to play with it? I googled it and it says
    APN: internet.com
    Username: *Empty*
    Password: "*Empty*
found these setting for Rogers ppl.. but i dont know what does it mean and sure when i tried it, my wifi didnt work either
    Am i missing anything?
Does the BB software affect the WIFI? i know there are multiple updates for BB curve 8320 but not sure if installing the new version will help me or not with htis problem?
    Thanks

You may be on to something.

I have experienced failed connection issues with some of the beta OS software, rolling back to a known good OS version alwasy sorted me out.

Options / About will reveal which software version you have installed.

Rogers currently supports v4.5.0.81 for both the Curve and Pearl. If yours is different, that may well be the cause of your problem.

i have v4.5.0.124 (Platform 2.7.0.92) Installed.. is it more advanced than the 81 version? could that be the reason?
    Thanks Reed for the help!
