- So I just put my blackberry bold 9700 through the washing machine, I have called the insurance carrier with ATT and they won't replace that phone with another 9700, and they also don't sell it in the store anymore. So do I sit around and use my horribly slow and annoying (compared to the 9700) Bold 9000? or do I go out and get another bold from a different carrier and have it unlocked (not looking to buy through 2ndary sources)? And if the latter what website do I trust to actually do it and not scam me? Do unlocked phones work just as well? Any hang-ups on doing this option?
I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong place or something, I've never used a forum before :/
Thanks ahead of time!

One of the things that the Insurance is supposed to do is either replace your device with the same one, or if that one is unavailable they would need to replace it with a similar model. I would call and complain, escalate it as high as it needs to go. You pay for the insurance, they need to replace your handset.05-01-11 06:35 PMLike 0

- Unfortunately, I don't see where AT&T has the 9780 available. Looks like they passed on it and probably won't go with another until the new Bold Touch is released.
They might offer the OP a Curve 3G, but I don't think they'll like that answer.
So, for a device for now, a used or unlocked device would probably be just fine. Be aware, though, that an unlocked device from another carrier may not have matching 3G bands with your AT&T service.

Those carriers use different frequency bands for 3G, so you would only be able to get 2G (EDGE) on AT&T.05-01-11 08:12 PMLike 0

You pay for insurance, get them to meet their end of the agreement
