Help! My brand new Pearl is at the bottom of 7 Seas Lagoon @ Disney!
- So tonight a longtime old friend took me out to dinner for my birthday, to a fancy restaurant at the Disney resort in Orlando (where we live).
This restaurant is right on the lagoon that overlooks the Magic Kingdom.
At 9:00 we went outside on the veranda, which is literally right ON the water, to watch the fireworks.
Some British couple asked me to take their picture.
So I handed my BRAND NEW BLACKBERRy to my friend and asked him to hold it while I snapped a photo of the tourists with their camera.'
Somehow my friend accidentally dropped my Blackberry into the lagoon and now it is gone for good.
I bought it one month ago today when I renewed my contract with AT&T.
It was the Pearl 8120 with built in wifi. I paid $200 after the rebate.
Now my understanding is, there is no insurance on Blackberries.
Right?
Does anyone have any suggestions??
I am pretty frustrated right now because I have had cr@ppy cheap cell phones all my life and have never lost one. Now when I finally invest in a Blackberry, it ends up at the bottom of the lagoon when I only had it for 30 days.
$200 for 30 days, that's about what, $7 per day?
My friend has offered to pay for it but I told him that to replace it would probably cost more like $500 because when I got it, I got a deal because I was renewing my contract.
I don't feel right asking him to pay for it because it was an accident.
Do I have any options whatsoever here other than going to Best Buy tomorrow and getting some crappo Samsung for $50?
Fortunately I still have the AT&T sim card from my old cr@ppy phone that I had before I upgraded to the Blackberry. So I can swap it into a new phone.
Is there any way I can get insurance on this Blackberry that's now in the water??????
I'm asking here on these boards in hopes I can get a tip of some sort before I actually call AT&T.11-08-08 11:45 PMLike 0 - Michelle HaagI work here.Wow... I was devestated over the first tiniest scratches... I can't even imagine what you're going through.
You might be able to find one online cheaper somewhere... I don't know where exactly, but knowing the awesome CB community, someone will have good suggestions for you.
Hang in there.11-08-08 11:48 PMLike 0 - If you have insurance and you dropped it in water, then just do a claim, pay the deductable and then you will get a new one. Or say its lost, I mean it is lost at sea. That is what you pay $5, $6, or $7 for anyway right?11-09-08 12:16 AMLike 0
- Im sorry for your loss....im in withdrawals and i just shipped my berry to colorware...so i feel ya pain....im on a crappo prepaid samsung from vzw ummm its like my first ever cell lol stinks!
Always get insurance!11-09-08 12:16 AMLike 0 - Where can I get insurance?
Is it too late?
Today is the 30th day since I bought it.
I would have gotten insurance but my understanding was that AT&T does not insure blackberries.
So I didn't ask about it.
I just tried calling AT&T but they are closed for the weekend.
I am PLENTY sick about this!!!!!!!! Why is it that every time I finally spend money on something nice it either breaks or goes missing?
It's the same thing with sunglasses. If I buy a dumb pair of $10 sunglasses I guarantee you I will have those stupid sunglasses for 10 years.
But let me go and spend $50 or $100 on a cool pair of shades and I guaran-fricken-tee you they will either be broken or lost within seven days.
I have the sh#$ttiest luck of anyone I know.
I waited and waited and waited for my AT&T contract to come up so I could upgrade to this stupid Blackberry.
And now it's at the bottom of the water. I hate my life. I am so pissed off right now.11-09-08 12:28 AMLike 0 - You would have to speak with the carrier, i think verizon is 2 weeks or less, but im not sure because i have always purchased insurance at the time of purchase...come in handy quite a lot. VZW=$50 deductible...
i think att is in the $125 range, but im sure someone with ATT will give u the 411...Maybe try posting in the ATT subforum, under ask the reps http://forums.crackberry.com/f116/11-09-08 12:32 AMLike 0 - If I'm not mistaken, insurance is something you have to buy at the very beginning when you start your contract. At least its that way for Tmo. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya! Hopefully you're paying for it and you just don't know. Can you go get a bill and check our itemized charges? On my Tmobile bill under the Other Charges section it says "PHP Insurance and Warranty by Asurion" $5.99... Good luck!11-09-08 12:36 AMLike 0

VZW insurance is 4.99 for WPP or 5.99 for TEC with a 1 year extended warranty. Per Asurion the WPP must be added within the first 15 days of activation of a new device on VZW...can't speak to ATT. Good luck, I wouldn't give anything to the Disney corp...none the less my beloved berry.11-09-08 12:41 AMLike 0 - City, sorry that happened to you. I cant speak for other carriers, but I know with Sprint, you have 30 days from the time you activate the phone to add insurance.
I dont recommend Craigslist at all but on eBay, the AT&T Pearl (brand new) is about $200.
The only other thing I could suggest is calling your carrier, and add the insurance. Dont tell them the phone has been dropped and is unrecoverable- Assuming you still have the box so any numbers they need can be read off of the box.
I dont have a clue if this will work but its worth a shot.
Good Luck to You.11-09-08 12:58 AMLike 0 - I'd be devastated....
I'm rude. Whenever anyone wants to play with my BB, I warn them up front, "You break it, you buy it." I suppose if they lost it, they'd buy it too.
Try the marketplace here or eBay. I haven't dealt with ATT cs since before Cingular, so I have no idea if they'd be willing to help you out at all.
Best of luck.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com11-09-08 10:46 AMLike 0 - Wow. I think I'd still make my friend pay for it (or at least 1/2)! Sorry to hear you lost your phone - thats awful and so sad!11-09-08 10:48 AMLike 0
- AT&T's technical policy is that insurance must be added within 30 days of purchase of a new device. And even though BlackBerry's and other smart phones used to not be covered, I believe they are now. I don't condone adding it after the loss has happened because that is technically insurance fraud but I am just giving you the details.
Also, it is understandable to feel bad to ask your friend to cover at least part of the cost. But as a friend, they should have taken better protection over your property. If a friend asked me to hold a phone of theirs while I was standing next to deep water, I would carefully place it deep in a pocket until I was away from the water. Either way, it's not your fault that it happened so the least they could do is cover part of it.11-09-08 03:59 PMLike 0 - go on eBay i just searched they got 8120 for at&t for $214 buy it now with free shipping heres the item number for the one I pulled up got 2 days left Item number: 200271690378 or you can overnight it for like 24 bucks extra

In regards to the OP, as hard as it may be, I'd ask my friend to help out with a new one. But then again, my friends would have instantly offered to help me somehow replace it.
Good luck!11-09-08 05:01 PMLike 0
