Everyone, I'm at a quandary of sorts. I have a pearl 8100 and am on T-mobile, which is not that thrilling as of yet but I'm married to that carrier (free service through work) for a while.

My pearl is dying, dropping calls, slow downloads, etc. and it's time for an upgrade. I've had the phone for about 3 or 4 years.

So I was on the TMO website and they had several to choose from, the curve 8900, the 8820 and curve 8520, and I don't know what to choose. I've read here that TMO is supposed to have a new BB come out soon, possibly a touch screen but I don't want a watered down version.

I use my BB for many things, e-mail, word, excel, .pdf, viewing pictures, etc. and I'm very interested in tethering the device to my laptop to take advantage of "free" data service.

Any suggestions or advice are welcome.

Slow downloads isn't really going to be fixed on tmobile, since they don't have a 3g BB.

Thanks, JoeyMoose. I was looking for some more concrete feedback like if you get X then you loose out on Y or don't get Z because it's crappy and won't hold up.

I don't see any reason to get a 8820 or 8520 over the 8900 though...

So I don't really think those should even be on the list. You basically have 8900, 9000 unlocked, or wait.

Is unlocking the Bold 9000 difficult in you opinion and have you done it before?

Well here's what I did when I got my first BB. I looked at my options with Verizon, then I looked at the BB stat's. I took into account what I needed the device to do, and then I went to the store and held and used all of the BB's. Then I ended up picking the one that was best suited for me.

Pretty much every BB on the market will do what you asked for except for the 8830WE, but that one is about to be retired. The 8830 does not have a camera, therefore no MMS.

I personally don't like any of these compared to the Bold, Tour, Storm or upcoming Onyx. Considering I've had a Curve 8320 for 2 years, I'd like a more complex and powerful phone now. But if you want a curve and these are your choices, I'd say nothing and wait until research more and really get addicted before jumping the gun! I've been on the "nothing and wait" list for 4 months! arg!

You either call up AT&T and tell them you need to use the phone overseas and need the unlock code (hit or miss but free).

Or pay for an unlock code from one of the website services that offer it.

Anyone want to go into the Driftwood debate? Should I wait and get the Driftwood instead? I read the thread and no one seems to have a launch date. I called our TMO rep and am waiting for him to call me back.....

In all honesty, a Rep will not be able to even Speculate a release date. You are better off getting dates from CB and adding a month or two.

Congrats! You wont be disappointed. The first thing I ad to do was download some themes. I don't care for the default theme on the 8900

If you are going to stay with Tmo and know you aren't changing, I'd almost go with the Bold even though I have an 8900 myself. The reason I say this is because I feel like the Bold is the closest to the Driftwood which is probably going to be released relatively soon. Now that it's been spotted in the wild with labeling. That's the one I would personally wait for lucky for me my contract ends in January and I assume it will be released by then (keeping my fingers crossed)!!

    Congratulations on the new device!

I would have told you to wait for the Driftwood but you're going to get it anyways. I'm selling my 8900 for the Driftwood. You'll definitely be happy with the 8900, it's a solid device.
