When viewing my location using Google maps on my BB Bold, I get an approximate location ("within 2000 meters) using cell tower triangulation. The same thing goes for the Weather Channel application - the GPS can not locate my specific location. It does not appear that the GPS within the phone is operating correctly.

Is there a separate application or menu that controls the GPS features in this phone? What do you suggest that I do to test and /or turn on the GPS?

I had a few problems with my GPS when I got my Bold. Have you tried to into the GPS options (which is located in advanced options in settings) and refreshed the GPS so it finds your location. Make sure you are outside so you have a good space to get a fix.

When I go into Settings/Options, there is NO setting listed for GPS. Is this something that may have either been inadvertantly been deleted or corrupted or software that needs to be optionally added via the Application Loader?

    Its:
Options > Advanced Options > GPS > "Press Menu Key" > Refresh GPS

Can you get GPS working in BB Maps?

I noticed that sometimes it takes a while to acquire satellites and sometimes it gets them quick (all depending on where I am).

I have not experienced this problem. At the risk of sounding obvious, all GPS devices do NOT function indoors

You have to "start GPS navigation" when in google or bb maps.

    It does not automatically start.

Just hit the menu button (beside the trackball) and it's second from the top!

Mine works indoors, even in the mall. I stopped there with a GPS app running and it showed me inside where the mall was at on the map. It also kept telling me to get back on the road.

I only have the Google Maps application on my Bold. There does not appear to be a menu choice to enable the GPS, except for the command "Bluetooth GPS".

When displaying my map, it relocates my position every 10 seconds or so. It never gets it right, however.

    Any suggestions?

Under the application permissions, do those apps have permission to use the GPS?

I have noticed that my GPS on my bold is very inaccurate for short distances unlike my 8820 which was dead on the money. Using the latest v. of geocache navigator where short range accuracy is important just did not work well at all for me.
