Hello. I am looking for a blackberry on ebay. i came cross 2 that i really liked. the tour 9630 (verizon network i am on) and the curve 8530 (2nd one). i dont think i will like using a trackball on the tour. so i said no and wanted to watch a curve 8530 that doesnt have the trackball. i got an email from a guy saying the curve's battery sucks and u have to always charge it. is this true, and how good is the tours battery? which one would be my best deal if i text alot and use internet??? plz help! if my messages arent working email me at [email protected] thanks

The browser's on each phone are the same. If you text a lot the Tour's keyboard
will probably suit you better. I know I've seen plenty of complaints about the Tour's
battery life too so it's just not limited to the Curve.

Okay I had a Tour before my 9700 and one my guys still has one. 2 of my people have 8530s too.

I haven't noticed battery issues with either. My 9700 is mildly better than the Tour, but the difference is not huge.

8530 has the trackpad. Much better than trackball, especially the Tour trackball, which had a high failure rate in earlier built devices. (Mine was unusable after 3-4 months.)
I don't like the 8530's important top row of keys (SEND, MENU, trackpad, ESC, END). The Curve's keyboard is higher but the top row is a clickable part of the screen surround, like on the Storm2.
8530 has WiFi. If you browse a lot and have WiFi access, that might mean a lot to you if your data is NOT unlimited/large.

The Tour has a faster processor. Most importantly, it has almost 2.5 times the screen resolution. Huge difference anyone would notice.
Tour's camera is 3.2mp vs 8530's 2mp. Tour has auto-focus, but 8530 doesn't. Megapixels don't matter too much, but the auto-focus is huge.
After I adjusted, I prefer the Tour/Bold keyboard design over the Curve's.

I would probably take the Tour if it was the choice of these two, with the screen being the biggest reason why.

But if there's any way at all you can get yourself a Bold 9650, I would do that hands-down! It's a Tour, but with a trackpad & WiFi.
The 9650 has double the memory too, 512MB.

Is there a reason you can't get that one? Out of price range or availability?

well on my ebay there are 6 bolds that i am watching. they are not selling those as highly as the others. i just dont know what deal i would be getting. the weird thing is all the bolds are about the same price as the curves/tours. should I be concerned with what id be buying? so u recommend bold over all those?

    Oh yes, 100%.
The Bold 9650 is a Tour with WiFi, a trackpad, and double the memory.
It's a great device and is the only one we're discussing in this thread that will get OS6 eventually.

Just be careful of model numbers. Of the Bold line, only the 9650 will work on CDMA networks like Verizon.
The Bold 9000 and 9700 will NOT work with Verizon.

why can't you just get the phone from Verizon? Are you ready for your upgrade?

I have the Bold and it is a great device. You would be very pleased with the Bold.
It will be getting the new 6.0 OS and webkit browser. It has the largest memory and hands down, you would be better off getting the Bold.

i am not ready for my upgrade and i need a phone asap. ebay is cheaper than verizon anyway. and yes i have made my decision to go with the bold and the 5 that i am watching are all 9650's.

    Perfect! Good luck!

Craigslist can be another great resource too. That way you see before you pay.
You can even ask the seller to meet you at a Verizon for the sale, so you can confirm it's theirs and have it transferred to you.
    (Check with store manager first!)

Well congratulations, I was going to suggest going for the 9630 or 9650, but you're certainly didn't make a bad choice with the 8530. I haven't heard anything about that handset having poor battery life, it's certainly a nice, entry level device. The funny thing is the Curve can do almost all the same stuff that the Tour and the Bold can do, just in a different package, so you should be good to go. Enjoy that Curve my friend!

The poor battery life of the 8530 was with earlier builds of OS 5. The problem's long gone now. If you want a killer battery life, get a hybird.

No way to know until it arrives, Katy. Doubtful that it's the newest OS though.

Once you get it, go to the 8520/8530 Forum. The newest OS should have a Sticky Thread at the top of that Forum. (Btw, 8520 and 8530 use different OS's.)

I got the hybrid latest one on my Storm 1 and it made the phone worse, and people kept telling me to switch back to the regular one. gahh idk anything haha

    Congrats, Katy. Enjoy!

Btw your 8530 uses OS 5.0 as you said.

OS 6.0 is the next OS just coming out. Of current BB models, the devices which will run OS 6 are 9800 Torch, 9700 Bold, 9650 Bold, 93XX Curve3G, and 91XX Pearl3G. And of course all future device releases.

But don't sweat it! 2 of my guys use the 8530 so I've had time to play with it. Your 8530 is a great, solid device.

Again, congrats on the new toy!
(And remember, if you have any questions about your 8530, don't post them here but in the 8520/8530 Forum.)
