Newbie, I'm looking at getting a Blackberry Storm and I went to the store and they said that there is a 29.99 additional fee for the data plan for blackberrys and they said that there is no way to get around it. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way around it? Like buying a unolocked one or anyother way. Thanks

Gotta have the data plan if you want to use the bb to its fullest. If you can afford it then definitely get it.

Verizon requires a data plan. There are mixed reports of being able to get the plan removed, but they do periodic sweeps of BB ESNs to make sure they have the plan attached. You may get away with it for a while, but it will be put there.

There is a 15 dollar data plan I believe you can get away with but then you run the risk of going over your limit. That would be devastating!

+1 A BB without a data plan is just half a BB.

This is another stupid question but just to make sure you will have to still get a select or premium plan for text and web surfing? Would it be better to get a unlocked phone and go with another carrier of is version ok?
