I heard that AT&T is going to drop the EDGE networkwork meaning we will get no service. is this true? Also I heard Blackberry doesn't support 3G...

Please tell me this isn't true. If it is I have to let me phone go and I don't really want to.

Could you give us your source? And how can Blackberry not support 3G? Your device model shows a Bold on AT&T. Don't you get 3G capabilities on it? That is all completely untrue.

I sincerely doubt EDGE is going away any time soon, especially since they are still selling EDGE only devices (most of the Blackberry devices for example). There was some discussion a while back about AT&T switching which frequencies are used for EDGE and 3G in some markets (switching 3G to the 850MHz band and relegating the EDGE connections to 1900MHz), but I don't know if that was ever officially verified, nor do I know which markets were going to be affected. But dropping EDGE completely seems pretty far fetched in the foreseeable future.

they cant just drop edge, not without compensation for people in contracts. and a huge marketing part of the bold is that it has 3G... i guess missouri may not have 3G? go to the att website and look at a coverage map

I am sure they have estimates and plans ready for getting rid of edge and only going with 3G, but as others have pointed out this is not going to be soon since there are too many people to still support on edge.

Plus, their 3G coverage isn't so good it seems to get rid of edge right now.

    Att will not drop Edge!
Yes they will get technology in the future but they will just not drop you.
It was like when they merge from TDMA to GSM. They gave people a choice for a couple of years till the contract ended.

ATT has the largest collection of "old" technology of any of the carriers. I guess that means if you live in Farmerville, it might be some time before you actually experience 3G speeds.

Depends on which one you have...the original iPhone is 2G and the current one is 3G.
AT&T is still selling 2G phones so it ain't going anywhere.
