Not only gave me a listing on the hub that eliminated the delete button, it posted an item to my calendar. This feels pretty hackish. What to do?

Probably not an email, but a PIN message send by an adware app on your device.
PIN messages will look like an email in the Hub or in the BlackBerry Email client on Legacy devices, but they are routed P2P via the PIN message system, as in sending a "email" directly to your device by means of the devices PIN instead of to an email account.
Go through your recently installed apps, especially free ones, to see if any have had comments posted on the app store you got it from about spamming.
