This weekend I have been to Amsterdam. My main concern was, obviously, the battery life of my Blackberry Classic especially that I really don't have the time to keep on charge like I do in Rome. But to my surprise, all I needed was to put it on Battery saving mode and keep it on 3G and 2G network (like I do in Rome) and it stayed alive for the whole day (night included).

So basically, the problem was not with the Classic, it was with the network in Rome. And this is just a small proof. On Saturday I returned back home at 6a.m. And I didnt recharge it since since 6:04 am like in the picture (of the day before) and it still had 14% of juice.

So my question is, is a bad 4G network and bad carrier support (italy) drain the phone's battery to that extent? Since the same plan in Italy would only give me 8 hours top.

A bad carrier support and bad connections can drain your battery.. because your phone is always searching for a connection...and searching is working, and working is draining...

You seem to be long enough on this forum so you should know that bad network coverage is number one battery killer.
Turn that silly 4G off as it doesn't give any advantage where 3G network should be sufficient for browsing and general use unless you watch HD movies online which on this phone is a bit pointless anyway.
Enjoy your Classic the way it should be.

Absolutely, that will kill any battery. On my Q10 I can make it two days on a charge (not a power user, obviously) when I'm at my apartment and out and about in NYC. But if I'm at work underground or I go visit my mom in the suburbs, the battery drains extremely rapidly due to terrible signal to no signal in both places. At work I just shut off the cell network completely and go with wifi, but at my mom's I just do the best I can.

And for the record everybody has that problem in both those places, regardless of make and model of the phone.

You mentioning Rome suddenly has me craving a plate of cacio e pepe...

Yes it is a huge difference.
That's why half of the posts in this forums is people complaining about battery life where the other half doesn't seem to have an issue.
That's applicable to any BlackBerry model not only Classic.

Yep, huge difference. I can go into work with a full Q10 battery, and if I forget to turn off the cell signal, after a three hour rehearsal I'll come back and the battery light is flashing and it's down to less than 20%. It can go that quick if it's searching for a signal.

On Verizon we have no choice of what band to use. I have global, LTE/CDMA and LTE/HSPA+/UMTS/GSM. That's it.

My operator, with good 4G coverage has better battery results than with 3G. One network engineer once explained to me that LTE network, when properly setup, is actually better on battery than 3G.

If you wont listen to the comments "why ever carry a smartphone" or "have a smartphone, so use it"... I give you an ultimate advice: use the phone when you want to! ... here's how...

The "trick" is to be aware of your availability: do you want to be reachable "only" per phone or text messages, you can deliberately turn data off and only keep phone mode functioning.

Then, would you be at the mercy of notifications and sporadic emails or deliberately check your e-mails say at the beginning of a day, about midday and in the afternoon, so turn the data on at those moments, gather all the emails and work/act on them. Turn data off again when you don't really need it.

This method extends the battery life considerably!
