Sorry if this has already been discussed. ive searched and cant seem to find an answer. im running poynt. everytime i open the app it tells me my GPS chip has been deactivated.it promts me to goto options>advanced options>GPS and ensure GPS services is set to Location ON, but there isnt even an option to set location on. under GPS services the only option is off. under GPS data source the only option is none.....???? i can still locate things and get directions fine. google maps still works fine. Im using poynt 1.5.2.36, 8520 (5.0.0.411 OS) im with tmobile and i have unlimited everything including data, and it worked before i upgraded to 5.0. is this an upgrade issue or an issue with poynt??? thanks.

no its just a leak. ive been using it for awhile and gotten use to the pop up now. everything still works like it should so i guess its not that serious of an issue.

Perform below test to see if your GPS hardware and firmware works.
1 make sure you are outside or in your car
2 go into options on your blackberry
4 click on status
5 type the word "test"
6 Hit the menu button
7 click start
8 check the check box for GPS
9 click run
Wait a few moments (usually it isn't too long. Then it will say successful if GPS works.

I don't think the 8520 has an internal GPS. I know with the 83XX curve series, the numbering scheme is as follows:
8300 had no GPS, no wifi
8310 had GPS, no wifi
8320 no GPS, wifi
8330 GPS and wifi

I thought the 85XX series followed the same numbering convention. You could verify with your cell provider.

Google maps can provide your location based on the cell towers you are able to reach. But that is usually give a wide error range, i.e. within 200 meters or so. If you are using google with a GPS, it should tell you your location withing 3-6 meters or so.

Cook46933 is correct. The BlackBerry 8520 does not have an internal GPS. The 8530 does. Poynt should still be able to use your cell tower location in the same way Google Maps does.

It's true that 8520 does not have internal GPS, we didn't notice your model number. You can always buy a Bluetooth GPS module from eBay for as low as $15 (one user reported $15 with shipping included) to do everything you want with most GPS apps.
