Why is that you have to be outside with a clear view of the sky to achieve a GPS fix? I'm not comparing my storm to an iphone, but the iphone does get a gps fix even underground (I tried it in a NYC best buy that was below ground). Does it have anything to do with the strength of the GPS chip? At the moment I'm in my office on the 17th floor at a window.

You're saying if you start GPS on the iPhone from cold underground you can get a fix? Impressive.

I thought all phone GPS chips were relatively weak, and needed mostly unimpeded access to the sky (in other words, NYC would be tough).

I can't get Blackberry Maps to work at all on my phone...is that what you're using? VZ Nav works fine though, even from indoors, at least as long as I'm somewhat near a window. I haven't tried from anywhere "deeper."
