GPRS off, WiFi on. Possible? Or just all internet off?
Hi there,
I've trawled through these forums to no avail in search for a solution for this problem:
My father owns a Blackberry 8520 Curve. The only reason he has this phone is because his previous mobile broke, and a friend offered him the Blackberry handset because he no longer needed it. The SIM card in the phone is a Pay-As-You-Go, on Virgin Mobile.
We have just realised that he has been billed 30p every single day that he has been using the Blackberry handset - Virgin's charge for internet usage, regardless of download sizes; typically shown as a few Kb's on the bill. The times the internet is activated seem to be when he leaves Wireless Network zones eg. when driving, not at home or at work.
He has a wireless network at home, and would like to use this WiFi, provided it is free of charge - much like you would on any other smartphone without a dataplan.
I'm stuck as to how to disable the GPRS whilst leaving the phone available for calls, texts, and preferably - but not essentially - free access to the internet through WiFi.
If I go:
Manage Connections -> Mobile Network Options -> Data Services -> Off
The GPRS turns off, but phone calls or texts cannot be made or received; which is obviously not a viable solution.
If someone knows how I can disable this feature, we would be so grateful.
Many Thanks
