That is your choice and perfectly fine. People are not and should not be forced to use Google. Many of us enjoy the benefits we get from using Google without any ill effects.

And I'm perfectly fine with that. I am the last person to tell anyone what they should or should not use or buy. Too many people claim to have an excellent user experience with their Android devices to just write it off. I can only speak for me, and the issues the OP points out here are just some of the exact reasons why I stay away from it.

And again, no problem with that. Choice is good. What is incorrect is when individuals (not you) make blanket statements suggesting anyone using an Android device is having their data "stolen".

Just to be clear, "Android" and "Droid" are not interchangeable. "Droid" refers only to a specific set of devices available only on Verizon, while Android devices are available basically everywhere.

Also, I'm not clear on how owning the Nexus 5 informs you on the Apple experience, kind of like how owning an iPhone wouldn't inform you on what it's like to own a Nexus device. The experiences of Apple and Nexus devices are broadly similar, but only broadly; they actually reflect very different philospohies.

Your post also makes another point. You liked your 9930 and considered a BBRY device when you switched carriers, yet you ultimately chose to switch platforms. This is one of BBRY's biggest issues. . . users which are happy with their current BBRY device, but when they have to buy a new device they get something different. It's this tendency that T-Mobile took advantage of with their recent promotion.
    1. Droid is an acceptable abbreviation of Android. Haven't you seen Star Wars?

    2. The Nexus 5 is powered by Google. Google knows everything. So yes, he would know about iPhones and all manner of other stuff, also, like everyone else, half his friends have iPhones.

    3. I agree with.

    On selling info:
    c) Aggregated or anonymous information
RIM reserves the right to process, sell, trade or rent aggregated or anonymous information that is not associated with or linked to an identifiable individual.

    On location services:
    g) Location information: When you use RIM Offerings, enable data services, use the browser or location-based functionality on your device, location information associated to your device (e.g. Global Positioning System (GPS) or similar satellite triangulation information, carrier or tower ID, the BSSID (Broadcast Service Set Identifier) and MAC address (Media Access Control address) of Wi-Fi access points, and signal strength of visible Wi-Fi hotspots or wireless towers) may be communicated to RIM or our service providers. If RIM collects and subsequently stores such information, it will be in a form that does not personally identify you (e.g. RIM does not maintain a system that would link specific individuals to a BSSID). RIM may process such information to provide you with or facilitate the provision of information and location-based services (e.g. mapping services, measuring traffic congestion, location-sensitive promotions or coupons). If you choose to use location-based services, you agree that such geographic location information may be processed to provide you with such services. You may manage through the settings on your device either the overall settings for your device's GPS or location functionality or individual settings for each application. If you choose to use location-based services or other applications to disclose your location to other persons or entities, you assume responsibility for the risks involved in doing so, and it is your responsibility to use them appropriately and according to applicable law. If you use Third Party Offerings which provide location-based services, please review the third party's terms and conditions and privacy policy regarding how your location and personal information will be processed, and how to opt-out of any location-based services and advertising provided by the third party.

    On sharing information:
    e) Information sharing
In accordance with this Privacy Policy, RIM may share your personal information within RIM or with our service providers. RIM may also share information with our financial, insurance, legal, accounting or other advisors that provide professional services to RIM. RIM may also share information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy with third parties involved in providing RIM Offerings to you including airtime service providers, authorized resellers, distributors, merchants of record or payment processors, subcontractors or entities participating in RIM's supply or repair chains.
In certain situations where you purchase or use a Third Party Offering (e.g. paid content subscription service, downloaded application), RIM may share certain information with the third party for purposes of providing you with the product, service or software and your information will then be subject to the third party's privacy policy. We encourage all our users to learn about the privacy practices of such third parties before agreeing to purchase or obtain their products, services or software.
RIM uses contractual or other means to provide a comparable level of protection while the information is being processed by our service providers. It is RIM's policy to enter into confidentiality obligations with any third party that obtains confidential information including personal information from RIM. For example, except where RIM is required or permitted by law to disclose personal information, our service providers to whom we provide your personal information typically agree to hold the information in confidence and only use the information for the purposes for which it was provided or to comply with applicable laws.
In the event of the sale of all or a portion of RIM's assets, RIM may provide personal information to the third party purchaser.
RIM may utilize third parties (e.g. advertising networks) to target advertisements at non-personally identifiable attributes or aggregated data that is derived from profile data processed by RIM, and provide such third parties with general statistics relating to the advertisements delivered. So in January I dropped my carrier (big red) and went shopping...I wanted to upgrade from my bold 9930 and from all my research I only liked two options Z30 and the Nexus 5. Cost wise it was a no brainer, emotionally it was hard to leave BB. I bought the Nexus out right and went to Tmobile....I can say that being on this phone for 2 months now that I see why BB can't make any head way in the US. The driod and apple experience is all about making money and collecting your data. If I download one more app that wants me to pay for something I am going to scream. If my phone ask me one more time to collect my location and data I am just going to scream louder. I have come to realize that as a BB user I dont expect apps to collect data unless I say so. I dont expect my info to be distributed to the highest bidder. So really it is the BB consumer that hurts BB. We dont like to have to pay monthly fees for an app, or to give our data over to and app. We expect a great product and privacy. If you get an andriod or apple you dont have a choice, you are a data and cash cow. MY Bold was great! a two year old phone that did everything I needed it to do. The other phone users can say that they have no problems with thier phones...BS. MY andriod updates an app every other day, so much I dont even that the app has been updated. The battery usage sucks compared to BB. I hate my FB app on here. My twitter app still freezes like on BB. BB products are great, dont believe that they are subpar! I tell people that I miss my BB all the time. The issue in the states is about data and cash, not the BB product. BB will only make head way in the states if they start selling data or pushing apps that want you to open your wallet. We as a BB community have to realize this. The BB phones have not conform to the US market, and we like that in a way. So dont blame BB they are doing what we ask them to do. I still use my playbook and to be truthful it's still up to par with most other tablets.
I'm sorry but I disagree. You came from a BO7 to a nexus android. BB10 in my opinion is a better choice and has conformed to the US market. It's the US market that won't conform to BB10. You said it yourself, you didn't even try the BB10 software so you wouldn't know because you haven't had the experience of bb10. I came from an Android to bb10. A z30 to be correct and I'm blown away. This phone is truly amazing. All blackberry needs is apps. Native apps bit that will never happen because devs, consumers and the media flipped a coin on BlackBerry and consider it done.

Does android have some quality features? Of course, but it's about the experience and iandroid experience requires you to use Gmail in order to get that experience. What if you don't use Gmail for your email of choice? Then you won't get the full experience because everything is purposely tailored to gmail. With BlackBerry, everything is tailored to email in general regardless of what email account you may have.

BlackBerry has come a long way and it's a shame that they aren't given the chance to succeed in this market regardless of the mistakes that were committed in the past. I've always make sure that I educate the consumer when it comes to BlackBerry and why I find them credible. Is it Blackberry's responsibility to market their device? Of course it is but right now blackberry is hurting and I feel that it's up the us, the community to help send out that message. After all, I am rocking a Z30 and love my phone not because it's blackberry, it's because it just works and manages my day. Android and iPhone could not do that in all the years that I've own one.

The term droid is actually owned by Lucasfilm. Motorola had to license it for the Droid line they were producing for Verizon.

If I was an android user I might be attracted to the Z30 but not at the expense of the hardware. The Z30 is only a mid tier device not even at the level of the Galaxy S4. If I was a iPhone user I would be only interested in a high quality device that had a similar UI to their iphone and a unified app store that Apple has all of the music, films and TV and apps as well other ways to use that media.

I have a Nexus Tablet and I do not use Gmail so I do not understand your comment there.

But ..I will bite, how is it that only the Z30 " just works and manages my day. Android and iPhone could not do that in all the years that I've own one."

Well, not to be pedantic but in the English language, we abbreviate things and as I said, 'droid is an abbreviation of Android. (as in Star wars) it was even licensed by Motorola (Moto) from them. If it meant something different, they wouldn't have had to pay for it now would they? I mean really, just spell it different and it won't cost a penny. So regardless of how Motorola eventually decided to employ the word, it was licensed from Lucasfilm. What are 'droids in star wars? F*****g ANDROIDS! That's what. Also, what Q10? You drokking Richard.

Mid tier!?!. That is the problem here. In sheer specs here blackberry may seem inferior to the galaxy brand but the beauty of bb10 is the fact that it doesn't need high specs to run perfectly. All my android devices boasted higher specs than Blackberry's but all ran like ****. The OS wasn't smooth at all. Which makes me come to the conclusion that in order for Android to flow smooth, it needs more resources that BB10 handles just fine.

I also have a nexus tablet and its a sweat machine but even the tablet doesn't handle how my emails integrates itself with everything. It's hard to explain the way BlackBerry does what I'm talking about. It's something you would have to experience using BB10. If you use a blackberry to manage your day like I do with mine, you would understand. It's not the same experience with android unless your using Gmail as your preferred email. Gmail isn't my preferred email so I have to either used the crappy one that came with android, or download another crappy one from the store. With BlackBerry it doesn't matter what email you have, bb10 will provide you with a great experience regardless of your email provider. BlackBerry does push you to use a certain email. It works the same for any email. That's something that android or shall I say Google will not allow to happen since they want everyone using gmail.

Comparing the Z30 to the S3 is more fair, specs wise.

If I could install BB10 on a Galaxy Note III I would do so... but BB10 has to support 1080p and landscape mode properly first. As it is I have to "settle" for what BlackBerry releases w.r.t. hardware, but I love my Z30.

I've used Android and BB10 and I'm not sure what you mean about how Android "doesn't integrate emails with everything." Gmail isn't my preferred client either (Outlook is) and I don't use the stock Gmail app at all. My emails are just fine with integration, if you're talking about access to folders and sharing from different apps.
