I received my invitation earlier this evening.
    Just set up my account.
Looks like this has a lot of potential.

I got my invite tonight also. I must say, its a pretty cool thing. Love the voicemail transcribed to SMS. Installed the Google Voice app on my Tour and it works great also. This has a TON of potential!

This app is what I've been waiting for since I first got my GV number. I don't give out my personal numbers anymore. My GV number is on my business cards and my website.

    This made my day!

Google voice seriously rocks.. Waited a few months for it but am very happy on how well it works. Only question I have is there anyway to use the BB app to place a call with another phone? I hate always having to use the cell and don't always have the computer on..

When you go to your address book and hit the menu button

if you select that option you'll place the call using GV. if you dial like normal you'll make the call via your regular number.
If that option is selected, DOES IT USE AIRTIME?

Yes. You use minutes when you use your cell phone. The only thing this does is force your caller id to show your GV number.

Are you sure about that. VoIP is Voice Over Internet Protocol. Uses the DATA PACKAGE v. the mins.

From what i've read, the google voice application is a VoIP service for your Blackberry/Android system. Meaning it uses the data package over the regular phone signal for the call transmission. If what i've read is correct no it will not.

The GV app uses data? I am fairly certain it uses minutes to make calls, but I could be wrong.

I guess there's only one way to know for sure. I can't test the app till my 8830 gets here (HOPEFULLY tomorrow.) If anyone has this app loaded, can you test it and report findings? That will take the speculation and guesswork out of it.

Google Voice does use your airtime (tested).

Haha... I received an invite from Google, just to find it was not available outside of the USA (in Canada).

Oh well. Does anyone know a tentative date for Google Voice in Canada?

I had to go back and download the updated version because the voice activation was not working. Now it does work, and I love the app.

Google Voice seems to drain the battery but I have figured out that you don't need the google voice app open unless you are trying to make calls or send texts. You can still receive your Google Voice calls normally through your cell phone. This might help people that are losing battery.

check the other threads in 3rd party apps. people are saying if you configure the gv number to your fave 5 or friends and family or pic 3....it does not count against your minutes. but you have to set it up so your gv number appears in caller id on all calls. you answer the phone and it then annouces who is on the other line...you can accept/answer the call or send it to vmail. or you can set it up to just answer, but you are answering blindly then as the caller id for incoming calls will show your gv number.
