I was on my BIS today, and when clicking on the contacts checkbox, instead of getting the usual error message, I saw on instructions on how to activate Gmail contact sync. I followed the instructions, and 2 minutes later, all my contacts were synced with my Gmail account. I'm not sure about other carriers, but if you have AT&T and are running 5.0 (Im using 5.0.0.314), you might want to give it a try.

Well i just checked on my tmo.com account after updating to .314 and yes it allows me to do this but can't figure it out anyone help me i don't understand this.
. In the Setup folder, log in to the email settings application.
2. After you log in, the security activation starts. By completing the security activation, wireless synchronization of your contacts entries with your device automatically begins.
I have a setup folder on phone but don't see email settings application

Me too. Hoping when 5.0 is officially available RIM will update the BIS for two-way email sync like Yahoo.
I musty agree. It's pretty ridiculous to me that BIS does not support 2-way email sync. For as much pride as they take in their email, it seems like a pretty obvious feature to omit.

We're in the same boat. We do not have the "Email Set-Up" Icon. My best guess is that it's Service Book dependent, and we will see it pushed when T-Mo officially releases OS 5.0. It will replace the crappy "Manage Internet Email" wap link we're burdened with now.
I use Google Sync for calendar options now. At this point, until GS can become a two way player in both contacts, calendars and more, I won't be using it other than for my calendar stuff.
I discovered this and it completly destroyed my address book. I'm not sure what happened, but I have multiple entries for the same person, wrong names, wrong details. Very, very odd.

guys im on telus and im unable to get the contact sync to work. I never actually see the setup for the contact feature...
I'm not familiar with Telus' operations, but with Verizon for example when I login to the VZW BIS site and select my gmail account I see a "Synchronize" section, where I can tick the "contacts" box. Have you tried setting this up through Telus' BIS site? https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=telus

Any help?
I had to delete my gmail account on my phone, battery pull, re-add the gmail account. Then login to bis via pc/laptop and it was there. Once it goes through, then on your phone you can setup everything else.
I had to create a login/password for my bis account that's what I kept overlooking before.
