Over the past few years it has been noted that most carriers speak negativity about selling Blackberries. The stores try to sell you android or apple, when will the heads of BlackBerry address this with the carriers?

It's great what just happened to T-Mobile and BlackBerry responded nicely but they need to do the same to all the other carriers that bash Blackberry!

    Kevin your thoughts?

    All carriers blow. Period.

Once one understands that - you begin to understand why they do what they do. Which is blow.

I don't know if Apple was the root cause of this but the "price" for being allowed to sell iPhones was the huge numbers the carriers had to purchase. I have heard that Apple actually dictated the numbers, but you will never hear anything from the carriers as they are not allowed to talk about Apple in anyway.

If the carrier did not sell the amount it was very expensive for them, so they did everything they could to sell them. As other carriers was added they too had to sign similar agreements.

I don't think BlackBerry ever treated the carriers this way, but as the brand got less popular it was easy for the carriers to move BB users to iPhone/Samsung to reach their sale targets.

It's not because of Apple. The proof of that is the fact that the carriers are equally, if not more likely, to recommend an Android phone over an iPhone to customers in the stores. If selling iPhones was a problem, they'd push them constantly, over Android too, but they don't.

The reason BB's carrier support has eroded over the last few years is because of BLACKBERRY.

Carriers are BUSINESSES, and the main goal of a business is to MAKE MONEY. When BB was helping the carriers make money, BB got plenty of carrier support. But when BB, under Mike and Jim, were so arrogant and so out-of-touch that it took them over 3 years to even START the process of coming up with a BB answer to the iPhone, only to spend 2 years wasting time on a tablet instead of focusing on the new phones, and then finally releasing the new phones SIX YEARS after the iPhone was released, only to have those phones STILL not be ready and full of bugs, including the reboot bug, which caused a ton of returns that the carriers had to eat, it's easy to see why BB gets little love from the carriers. Not only has BB not helped the carriers make money, in many cases, the carriers have LOST money with BB over the last couple of years. If that was YOUR money being lost, month after month, would you still carry the product, when other products were making you profits? If so, then that's bad business.

BB was once at the top in the smartphone market - it was their position to keep or lose. They lost it, though a LONG series of arrogance, bad decisions, poor timing, and lousy execution, lasting YEARS. That series of disappointments is chronicled right here on CrackBerry if you go back and look. Of COURSE there is competition: BB is in perhaps THE most competitive market in the world right now, and playing against 3 giants. BB was a giant once, too, but they let it all slip away because Mike Lazaridis was convinced that no one wanted touch phones or apps or "pocket computers" - he was sure that the only thing that mattered was keyboard, emails, and messaging.

If you're looking for somewhere to direct your blame, you should be facing BlackBerry HQ, because that's where the responsibility lies.

Until BlackBerry produces a phone that sells and makes the carrier money it will remain the underdog and treated as such.

    Basic business 101.

I visit a number of forums every day, and several of them have no text formatting options, leaving only CAPS to emphasize words that need emphasizing. It has nothing to do with trying to be cool (something I care exactly zero about).

Apple's control with respect to carriers is the exact same control that BBRY, Samsung and Nokia have, which is control over the terms under which product lines are offered to the carriers. Apple gets better terms than BBRY, but the disparity is expected in light of each company's level of unit sales success.

Do you really need emphasis on forum posts? Do you think people will give your post greater consideration because you post a few words in all caps? It actually is probably quite the opposite.

This a very interesting point of view and sadly enough, a good summation of the rise and fall.....well falling and trying to get up at any rate.

    Makes sense.

I like how everyone forgets the years when BB dominated the smartphone market, and carriers would have bent over backwards to sell you a few.
