Use Windows LIVE search... just as good... I worked at Best Buy in the mobile dept. and I know with Garmin, you are recommended to buy the Map updates every year... well the update is $80! use WLS and its always up-to-date because its internet streaming and no need to pay for updates...

I haven't got windows live to work properly. It downloads but the GPS part is not functional

One of my biggest issues with Garmin Mobile, which I currently use with a Garmin 10x GPS puck on my T-Mobile 8320 Curve, is that I can't navigate (more than a few blocks at least) and talk on the phone simultaneously.

I figured this was a limitation of EDGE technology only allowing voice or data, but as I understand it the Bold supports multiplexing/simultaneous voice & data.

Has anyone tried navigating a good distance and talking on the phone simultaneously on the Bold + Garmin Mobile? And if you did get it to work, did you use the internal GPS or a puck?

This is my only real reason to upgrade to the Bold, since it's only on long rides that I really use the cell phone in the car, and it's only on long drives that I need GPS!

I had several calls while in the car with the Garmin Mobile APP running, the Bold did quite well on 3G.

I was surfing the net at Burger King (on their hotspot) and listening to music last night when a call came in. The music just stops while you answer the call then starts where it left off when you hang up the call.

The Bold really does multi-task very well.

Also it's funny that you mentioned the bit about the music. I have an A2DP Handsfree setup in my car which allows me to stream music off the 8320 (8GB card in there) through the AUX input on the radio. I can listen to music and navigate simultaneously (which is how I eliminated the possibility that it was the bluetooth which was preventing me from talking and navigating at the same time), and it pauses whenever a call comes in as well. It's amazing, sit down, start the car, phone stays in your pocket (or in my case, the ashtray), and it automatically connects and is ready to play music, talk, or click on Garmin Mobile and navigate. Things can slow down a little if you try to do too many things at once, like oh say unwisely browse the web whilst doing all this, but mostly it just works.


Very neat devices, and the A2DP makes the modern Blackberries absolute killers for me (I say "modern" since my first Blackberry was the old 850). Take it from a former 1.0 iPhone user / unwitting beta tester and former owner of a Nuvi 680 and the awful Porsche Navi, if the Bold really is twice as fast processor-wise and the navigation works simultaneously with the voice consistently on long journeys, there isn't another phone in anyone's lineup that even comes close for the Bluetooth "connected" car.
