- OK great, so you dug up some old links. Do you seriously recall hearing about it in the news at the time? Or that it was anything particularly notable in the mobile tech universe? I don't. It's great TCL is getting noticed more now that it is involved with BlackBerry, albeit for the wrong reasons. But the recent partial sale that was announced proves nothing about the success (or failure) of its more recent ventures with BlackBerry.11-08-17 03:08 PMLike 0

Anyway, the recent sell-off has some eye catching numbers that makes for good fake news headlines, and hasn't stopped some people from trying to falsely associate that devaluation and sell-off with TCL's involvement with BlackBerry.11-08-17 03:53 PMLike 0 - Why are links from a month ago old, that's when the sale took place? The reason it really wasn't news.... is it's all going on in China. Not much of an investment story outside of that market, and too be honest much of a mobile device story either as most of their business in still in China.
I think most here agree that TCL problems can't be attributed to BlackBerry Mobile. We have no idea if the KEYone was a finical success or failure. And either way any sales would have been a tiny part of their 11.7 Million shipments. Because BlackBerry Mobile isn't willing to release any figures.
I was simply pointing out the success that TCL Corporation is having with TV's.... mean noting for TCL Communications and thus BlackBerry Mobile. And also pointing out why they have been overly conservative with production and even components.11-08-17 04:45 PMLike 0 -
How is this fake news? The article you have a problem with is literally reporting facts as revealed by TCL. I don't think anyone is saying TCL sold 49% of the company because they partnered with BlackBerry. At best it COULD be an indicator that they haven't moved millions of Keyones for those that set their expectations that high (I think many here assumed it would be lower volume but still profitable sales).11-08-17 06:12 PMLike 0 - Well, I posted links to two major news publications so by definition it made the news. If you mean you, your circle of friends, or CrackBerry didn't care or notice at the time, perhaps?

We're just pointing out some technicalities with ownership structure. Most of us on here thought BBMo had all this huge backing, only to discover it's diluted. Obviously, parent company TCL is using partially owned TCT which in turn owns BBMo to limit it's total involvement and limit the resources it commits.Dunt Dunt Dunt likes this.11-09-17 06:32 AMLike 1

- Hello there, I just wanted to come back to the first topic,
I just want to hypothesize a little and imagine what BB10 world would be like after the official death announcement.
So, we no longer have BlackBerry World access, our apps get slower. The browser takes forever to open modern websites. We still call, text and use email. We only use Passport, Classic, Porsche, Leap, Z- and Q-series.
And there goes the dawn of unofficial community support. Crackberry becomes the hub of enthusiasts, developing apps for the OS, making patches, making new custom builds. The option to root/jailbreak Blackberries is available. Let's call it "crack". The cracked devices get custom BB10 based operating systems. For those concerned with security the BB protection is still offered, it's different from previous official protection but it does the job.
Or even better, make BB10 open source! since the company will abandon it...
Ultimately, it all works just the way Linux communities support old distros. The way xda-developers keep Android alive.
One reason of the success of Android (which is based on Linux) is because it is open source. So, many people can adapt it to whatever they want....02-12-18 12:22 AMLike 0
