It appears that blackberry is no longer sponsor for F1, no visible decals on the new F1 car.

Probably a three year deal that ended.

I wonder if they will continue using BES and BB10 phones since they were all setup to use them.

I remember in 2013 Frank Boulben of Blackberry said that " Mercedes and Blackberry have lot of things in common . The former is trying to make a comeback on the top position whilst the later ( the Blackberry ) is making a strong comeback with BB10 platform . Both Mercedes and BBRY stories match each other "
I am not aware what happened to the Mercedes after 2013 but BB10 we all know !!

Ok, bb10 is in maintenance mode, but bb still produces and supports the priv. No reason to stop using a bb unless bb decided to cut more costs. Maybe a 3 year contract has ended (who has the information that it was a 3 year contract?) but extending it seems an option to me.

At the end of the day, the deal didn't do much for BlackBerry did it?

It was well documented as a thee year deal that ended last season at something like $12 to $15 million per year. These are official pics from the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 website:

There seem to be blank spots where BlackBerry used to have their logo so there may another sponsorship deal that hasn't been announced. It's hard to believe that there wouldn't be a sponsor on those long front side panels whatever that's called. That's prime sponsorship real estate.

    Also, the uniform:

Well, does this mean I can finally read this forum on Sunday morning without spoiling the races? I'll take it!

I would think the cost of sponsoring the Mercedes team has gone up significantly since BB signed the deal. Mercedes is no longer the underdog. Even if Ferrari is able to close some of the gap this year, Mercedes will be on podium every week. Personally I think it will be 2017 before Ferrari will have truly closed the gap.

Yeah, that must suck. You should be able to enjoy your favorite sport without having the suspense ruined for you by reading a thread that is supposed to be about a smartphone stock. Somehow, I don't think Epson and Petronas aficionados have the same problem. Keep your guard up, though, I think people are still going to post race results on the weekend based on the assumption that BlackBerry still powers the communication infrastructure of the racing team. CrackBerry seems to exist in a kind of alternate reality where the upcoming slider runs QNX hypervisor, Apple CarPlay runs on QNX, etc. so, on these pages, BlackBerry will be an unofficial sponsor of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One racing team.

The last two years the F1 season ended with Hamilton and Rosberg, both driving for Mercedes Petronas AMG, taking first and second place respectively. This was awesome exposure for BlackBerry. I don't know anything about their advertising contract, but if it was time for renewal I would bet the price went up significantly due to the success of their drivers.

As far as I can remember, 2 of the 3 years were world championship years. They couldn't of asked for better results or exposure. Any exposure is good and winning is better. Leaving now doesn't really hurt them b/c they're leaving at the top, which alot of brands prefer to do. Too much doe for them to be putting out at the moment, although the affilation to the automotive industry would be a good argument to keep them there but the money must be hard to justify.
