Now I know there have been rumors for months that Ford was going to ditch Microsoft Sync for BlackBerry QNX for their in vehicle infotainment systems. Thing is I don't recall there being any kind of official announcement on the matter.

I even went to the QNX website and searched for Ford , but I got no listed partner.

Then I saw the following image posted on www.berryreview.com from BlackBerry's AGM today.

Who is that in the top corner, well its Ford. So am I just missing something or did someone at BlackBerry jump the gun here?

The only official announcement I recall about this was a Ford spokesperson stating that they haven't made any decisions yet lol

Is QNX the embedded system (to run the car, safety systems, etc) and Microsoft the infotainment system? I'm thinking so...

I'm due for a new Expedition (mine has over 140,000 miles), so I would love to know if the 2015 will have QNX.

QNX is used in many of the vehicular control systems, but hasn't actually been confirmed they have contracted for the infotainment units, yet. QNX is one of the candidates, though.

Ford will be using it. They are just waiting to announce it officially. Give it some time and they will. They are changing the name of the system. They will no longer be using the SYNC name. So I guess its all legal issues now.

It makes sense that legal issues would be holding this up.

The QNX infotainment system and the whole ecosystem BlackBerry is working to build around it seem superior to anything else on the market.

I haven't researched this extensively but who are the other big players in the car infotainment arena? Are any of them as big or as good as what QNX has been working on?
