First Look At The NFC Feature On BlackBerry 10 | BlackBerry Empire

Hope more places/companies follow Visa and integrate NFC. Love the flexibility and capabilities of it.
Yer looks pretty good but I'm not sure how much use I would get out of it... Still happy that it's there though.
Totally, I don't need a tag to load up a website. Besides mobile payments, I don't see it fitting seamlessly into my life.
I think there might be a nifty use or two I could think of for an NFC tag, I'll probably be buying a couple when I get my Z10.
This makes me want to put tags all over my house and car.. Then I can totally go overboard (e.g. tap next to stove, automatically bbm hubby and say supper's on) :D NFC unlocking my house would be nice too
Royal bank RBC and rogers needs NFC visa payments available
They really don't show much detail on what you can do and how. But I once read some examples as follows.
- Arrive home, tap a tag to turn on wifi connection and connect to home wifi; set profile to "home"; turn off work email if desired
- Get in your car, tap a tag to turn on your bluetooth, turn off wifi to save battery, set a different profile if desired
- Get to office, tap to turn wifi back on, set profile to "office/work"
I'm not sure if I understood fully that this is the way it would work but I can see this being useful, especially to save battery power and maybe even increase security (e.g. turning off unnecessary connections which could expose your device). What would be even better still is eliminating the need to tap and using some sort of proximity sensor where the device would know where it's at and automatically do what it is programmed to do.
Anyway, still learning about NFC but this is my understanding.
That's my understanding as well. I intend to have a couple for WiFi, and one for Bluetooth in the car. Nifty little things!
My dream is being able to use my z10 instead of my debit/interac card. My interac card has nfc, and I love just being able to tap to make a purchase.
Here's one use I didn't know about:
Opening doors. BMW has NFC-enabled car keys. Companies and universities are looking into or rolling out using NFC-enabled devices as security badges. To gain physical access somewhere, members need only tap their smartphones at the door.

There was a video posted here a long time ago about very futuristic bb devices, and they showed the IT department granting the device access to doors. Hang on, I'll try to find it.
Edit: found the video.

Hope they're sold on ShopCrackberry. Nothing there now.
Here's an idea for Kevin: offer tags with the Crackberry logo on them, like mini-stickers. Bet they'll sell out real quick.
me too. I've already slimmed my wallet down to 4 cards, I would love to get rid of all of them.
