Conclusion is it works:

Okay , the total process took me three days from the start when I first contacted my service provider, till I received the Unlock Code.

The provider does research that you're in good standing and the phone is paid off before issuing a code.

But now my phone is unlocked and I'm free to shop the market for the best service between providers.

In my situation, I purchased my phone out right and then saw that other companies were offering better value service plans. Now I can test the market.

Prior to happening upon this process I would have had to go to an online service and pay for an Unlock Code. Now for many, it's free to receive from your Provider.

That can amount to more than a couple of dollars that can be used towards a new service plan.
