Okay. When you come up with a 'sensible solution' that is consistent with the rule of law, you can come back and we can collaborate. Till then, we can just label your vague transhumanist agenda as 'your viewpoint', which according to the subjectivism you embrace is no more worthy than mine.

I'll wait, but not hold my breath.
I just called the Supreme Court and told them we dint need them any more. LOL.

I think you have taken my viewpoint and twisted it. Extremists do that.

I'm sorry. With all due respect, I don't know if you are naive, oblivious or just like to argue, the media is very negative on BlackBerry. If you don't see it, that is fine. If you don't see negative BlackBerry headlines of a current story with a picture of a 7 year old BlackBerry Pearl or storm captioned below, or the 'I wouldn't wish this BlackBerry on my worst enemy' crap, so be it. I can't help you there.

Meanwhile as far as this thread is concerned..... much of the media is making a mountain out of a molehill on this one phone issue, all the while it is reported that Apple has previously helped law enforcement in about 70 previous cases. While I agree with Apple's position in not wanting to provide a 'back door' for their products as it could be a slippery slope, not complying with court orders can also be seen as a slippery slope. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Apple does have the financial resources to fight this in the courts. No matter what side of the debate you are on, I think most would agree that Apple's handling of the issue was more polished and beneficial to their company than John Chen's unsolicited out of nowhere press release about complying with court orders a few months back.

It is interesting that when BlackBerry talks security, it is tinfoil hat time and nobody cares about security, they want social apps, etc. Apple talks security, it is championing civil rights (for their Chinese made products).

Btw, I have owned my first z10 for almost 3 years now and am still waiting for this rebooting scandal to rear it's ugly head. If you are talking about the unpolished release of BlackBerry OS 10.0, that is old news and I didn't experience it, but the early media reviews were certainly all over it, as they should have been. Apple May 1970 still exists and again I didn't read about it in the media, I heard about it from a tech whose job it is to deal with it.

    Posted via CB10
What, let me get this straight. You have a tech whose job is to deal with the issue of people physically (for no reason) winding their phone back to 1970? His phone must be ringing off the hook. That issue isn't being reported on because there is no reason to roll your phone back to 1970 and it isn't something that occurs within the OS on its own. You have to manually roll it back and no one has any reason to do that. Geez, give me a break.

Again, show me one major news or really any news outside of a BlackBerry blog that reported on double typing, passports bending, passports screen lifting, z10's rebooting, 9900's self blocking. You won't find one because there aren't any. Please find me some though.

Oh and they show a Bold phone in media reports because like it or not those are the most widely used BB devices. No one identifies BB with their new devices because no one uses them. There are so many more BBOS devices over BB10 devices, it's not even close.

Look I get it. You hate Apple. You don't like paying high prices for phones and enjoy the fire sale prices you get with older BB's. You've commented numerous times on it. Nothing wrong with it, but the constant ****-hurt nonsense of "the media is unfair to BB" is ridiculous. The media doesn't report on BB, which people should really be thankful for considering the massive amount of issues that have occurred within the company and their devices. I agree that Apple has also had their share of issues, but they are ALWAYS widely reported on. Many people (Fox News being one) have been widely critical of Apple here in this situation. Trump saying boycott Apple. And you're claiming the media is kind to Apple when they have an issue going on? Please.

You really don't like anybody critiquing Apple for a reality check, do ya?

    ****hurt?? Grow up will ya?

If Fox news is your news source, than your repeated generalisations with unbridled certainty now all makes sense. My advice? Switch channels. If you don't like Trump, then vote for Clinton, but she uses a BlackBerry, which also may rub you the wrong way. Maybe abstain from voting or run for office yourself if you want to change things.

I doubt there is a perfect government on the planet. I think you have to work with the system you have and try to do what's best for the population as a whole.

But nothing trumps (not Donald) just being a good person and thinking outside the boundaries of just yourself. JMHO.

Hahaha, I don't watch Fox News, I simply said they were reporting negatively on Apple since you claimed that no one ever does.

Show me some negative press for Bent Passports, Screen Lifts, double typing, rebooting. Shoe me some negative press for the Playbook being abandoned after BB10 was promised for it. Just give me one major news source. I'll wait.

Getting back on topic. I may have missed it, but has anyone raised the issue of how BlackBerry would have solved the problem that FBI has demanded Apple to solve?

If the phone were a bb10 encrypted phone, not connected to cloud services, or BES, not backed up through Bridge or Blend, and the option to automatically update the OS was turned off, could BlackBerry still unlock it, decrypt the data and satisfy the legal request, as Chen said he would?

Major news sources aren't even aware that BlackBerry still makes handsets and even if they are, they never report on them good or bad. So you will have to keep waiting. The release of the new iPhone, however, is in the news so stories on it are more readily available.

Regardless, if you reread the thread, I was referring to BlackBerry the company being treated negatively which is commonplace, not their specific products which are never reported on.

With 0.2% marketshare and consistently declining sales and revenue for years on end, it is not surprising that mainstream news regarding specific BB devices is uncommon and that news on the company itself is negative.

Do you believe that BB has actually had a successful product launch in recent years and the news media has been lying and making it seem like a failure?

Playbook, BBOS, BB10, BBM, BES, QNX-based internet of things, BB Experience Suite. I don't see any unreported smashing success story in there just waiting to be reported on. I can't think of a single thing BB has released in recent years which would have been a truly newsworthy success - at least for the major news sources as opposed to specialty mobile tech focused sites. And some of it is just vaporware anyway. Whether the Priv is a success is yet to be seen. Could it be that the news reporting is negative because the story itself is in fact negative? I think so.

The thread has gone way off topic. My premise was a phone used by a civil servant should have been on a BES12 type system where the owners force a password reset.

Later in the thread we learned the it guy responsible for the phone had the ability to control the AppleID password, reset it and this has caused the problem we now have. Without the AppleID reset there was a suggestion that an iCloud backup could have been initiated if connected to a wifi source known to the phone.

I don't know where I read or heard it, as the past few days the news has been full of this story, but the data on the phone could or would also include position data. This position data could track the suspects so the FBI could figure out where the suspects went after the initial incident and before they were killed in the shootout.

Back to my original question, will this cause companies, and Government agencies to think twice about supplying a phone without having full control over it.

Just a thought here folks, I wonder if Apple could unlock the device? Have them do the unlock at their facilities and then give it to the authorities without providing any of the software methods on how it was done?

I know I am the side of privacy and said that in one of my post, but I was thinking about this today and just thought I might be a way to please all parties involved?
That was my first thought, when this first came up.

If the Feds had come up with a court order to force BlackBerry to create a tool which breaches device security... the response is predictable. "Your jurisdiction ends about 100km from our office. That's kilometres, not miles because this is Canada not USA. Go sit on a fruitcake, a$$holes!"

BlackBerry conducts business in the US and has a corporate headquarter office building in the US.

Like Apple, BlackBerry is subject to the jurisdiction of many countries, including the US.

Who would be saying this? The CEO who is a US Citizen, lives in the US, and is a director of two major US companies?

Benifitial. Screw Apple. BlackBerry for the win! I hope this snowball into something bigger and then force people to rethink their privacy and reevaluate the brand of phones they choose. Maybe people will remember that BlackBerry is still the king when it comes to privacy on a mobile device.

How is Blackberry king of privacy when their latest phone is an Android phone which automatically serves up all the users information to Google? Talk about marketing, my God. If anyone believes that the Priv is giving you privacy then you are out of your mind. Is there any wonder why all of Google's apps are not subject to DTek? Its because those apps were purposely removed from being picked up from it so that all of a users data can be sent to Google. I'm not against Google by any means and think the Priv is a fine phone, but living under an illusion that it protects your privacy is ridiculous.

If this does snowball, Apple will come out smelling like roses and Blackberry won't even be part of the narrative.

Excuse you. I never mentioned Priv in my post. I was talking about the long history of BlackBerry being the king when it comes to the privacy of communication devices including BBOS and BB10 phones. I can see you wanna pick a fight, but you need to have several seats instead. #ByeFelicia
