What if you have Facebook open as a lot do and your giving your girl the once over lol
People are freaking out about this because they don't understand how it works.
There is a new, optional, off-by-default feature that you can use when you are posting a status update where you can choose "I'm watching..." or "I'm listening to..." and it will turn on the mic on your device for 10 seconds or so and listen to your TV or music and identify it, and then automatically finish the status update. So you might get: "I'm watching the Oakland A's vs. Texas Rangers baseball game." or "I'm listening to Katy Perry - Dark Horse."
Some people think this means that FB is going to turn your mic on all the time and upload everything back to them and spy on you, but that's not what this feature is all about, and again, it's off by default, so you have to enable the feature first, then activate it during a status update, before it can do anything.
This news is so very disturbing, I see many making fun of it but the implications and ramifications are deadly serious. ,Privacy or one's right to it is also a basic human rights issue, till FB or one of these spying apps gets a class action lawsuit, this promises to get worse. This is called voyeurism/ wiretapping which is illegal.

And what you have to understand is that if Facebook has the ability to turn on your microphone at any time, then they can do so whenever they want, regardless of your permission or not.
It's a good thing that the BlackBerry Facebook app is made by BB.
Regardless, every day there are more reasons to quit and less to stay on Facebook.
Welcome... to the world of TOMORROW!
Very optimistic as always brother.but let's be honest this will.be used the wrong way especially after the security breaches and information for profit agreements between Facebook and other corporations. People may forget or do not care for people will gladly choose the shackles they are to wear.

FB is hardly the only app with access to your microphone, and what's to prevent any of those from being used against you? Why is adding the same ability into FB, for a specific and specified purpose, suddenly a bad thing?
(BTW, the carriers, and thus the police and FBI/NSA, have been able to turn on your phone's mic and camera for at least a decade, so this is hardly anything new.)
If you are afraid of Cameras and Microphones... you are not going to like the future.
The Xbox Kinect makes for some very interesting game control. But imagine similar systems.... everywhere.
I fully understand how it works but hell it was a perfect drop point for light hearted banter lol
I don't understand your response to troy? Did you reed his first response to the OP Scalemaster?
Yeah but everyone likes porn though...
