I am a new user to blackberry. Ifound that I need a GPS puck to use in some areas that I will be camping in as no cell reception. Ialready have a Globalsat BT359that I used with a palm pilot which is now toast. The 8900 communicates well with it but I would need maps for off road deep woods. Any suggestions?

The only way I know of to get maps is by using a data connection. I have also gone in the backwoods with my BB. I check out google maps and it pinpoints me within 3 meters, only problem is that my little blue dot is the only thing on the screen. I have no idea what is around me at all because I have no data service to load the actual map.

You will need an actual GPS unit, unfortunately with no data connection it isn't going to do what you want.

One option would be to try TrekBuddy. It's designed to be used in areas with no cell service. It allows you to download maps to a media card. Google TrekBuddy.
