Yes. I'm a BES user. You still need to use Desktop Manager to make backups, manage your OS, and install 3rd party apps, assuming your BES IT Policy permits you to install programs.

Just to add what Jeff said, with DM hooked up to the BES you can also set your email filters and signature through DM.
