    Hey all,

A co-worker and I are trying to figure out if we can change a setting somewhere that will show emails read on the computer (Outlook) as been "read" on the blackberry. It works the other way around, if you read an email on the blackberry, it shows as "read" on our Outlook. If you don't keep checking the blackberry all day, we end up with 136 messages showing as "not read" when really they have been.

    Any one have any ideas?

p.s I have a Pearl 8100 with Rogers and she has a Curve with Telus FWIW

    Thanks in advace,

    Veener

I'm a BES user; it you are BIS users, what I'm about to say may not apply. Here are my email reconciliation settings:
    Message Services: Desktop
    Delete On: Mailbox and Handheld
    Wireless Reconcile: On
    On Conflicts: Mailbox Wins.

With these settings, my email syncs bi-directionally. If I read it either place, it shows up as read on the other. Deleting either place, deletes on the other, althought not instantaneously.

You are right about the settings. There is about a 20 - 30 seconds delay between the BB and PC :-)

I get a lot of customers asking about this issue, does this apply to BIS customers as well?

If you're reading them on your Blackberry and it's showing as being read on your Outlook, it sounds like you might be on BES. If you are, it may take a while before it shows as read on your Blackberry when you read a message from Outlook. To bypass that, click on Menu and then Reconcile Now. That will cause all read messages (from Outlook) to show as read on your Blackberry.

Trust me, no one gets more annoyed than having to deal with both computer and Blackberry in terms of reading and organizing mail. So, when I wake up I typically have about 30 to 40 emails. I check and file them away all on the computer and hit "Reconcile Now" on my Blackberry and.... BAM. They're all either read or gone into their respective folders.

Actually, I think that whatever is done on the computer will not appear on the phone until:

    1) You hit "Reconcile Now"; or

    2) You receive new email which then reconciles the device and server

Strange that it works that way. When I had Exchange set up on my iPhone, it was instantaneous both ways. With Blackberry, phone edits and changes appear immediately in my online Outlook inbox, but not the other way around.

    2) Is an interesting observation. It would explain why sometimes the "automatic" reconciliation happens very quickly, and sometimes not. Thanks for pointing it out.

I have these settings and for some time it would sync both ways. It has now stopped and BB syncs to server, but changes on the server aren't reflecting on the BB.

    Even after I "reconcile now."

PS I am refering to BES and not BIS.
