Recently when sending email, it hangs up and the little clock appears, then maybe one minute later, it gets sent out successfully. Other times, it fails to send all together.
100% of the time, this is solved by me turning off the mobile network connection for a minute or two, reactivating it, and when it grabs the network the email gets sent.

Is it switching back and forth from EDGE to GSM? If you have GSM, you don't get data. EDGE in capital letters allows data, email, browsing. If it is GSM, you can only use the phone or send SMS.
Sounds like a network issue.
You could try a battery pull or sending service books, but it sounds like a tower is down.
