Think about the uproar if the next windows came without a file manager...

Many big apps chose not to support either BBOS or BB10. Netflix and Skype to name a few back when BBOS had tens of millions of users. They were instrumental in my choosing to to continue with BlackBerry when upgrading.

Great points, but one major reason is that a lot of times, third party developers -- specialists, if you will -- well either make something better or force the OS maker to continue to improve.
No argument from me on that point either.
Are we talking Windows Phone or desktop/laptop computers?
You are too common with 99%!!

Google Play says between 100,000,000 - 500,000,000 installs just for ES File Explorer.
Plenty of people want a file manager.
Here's an example of the glorious eco-system you get when you go android:
Facebook accused of deliberately breaking some of its Android apps | Technology | The Guardian
Haha good catch, I intended desktop/laptop computer... (in which case I think it's called file explorer and not manager)

Maybe that's why this one feature touted so highly around here just really isn't that important to the 99.5% of the smart phone users.
And it's more comical that users here still keep harping about it.
I don't see how really great of a file manager it is. It does the job, but it's not exceptional in any way.
As a matter of fact it sometimes is a bit cumbersome.
For example.... (see I give examples): copying multiple files from one folder to another on stock BB10 file manager
-select first file with long press
-select "select more" from side menu
-click on other files
-open side menu
-press "copy to"
-acknowledge the instructions to navigate to target folder
-navigate and press paste.
Seven total steps.
ES file explorer on Android
-select first file with long press
-continue to select additional as the program recognizes this as a select more move.
-press copy button on options menu that is already visible.
-navigate and paste.
FOUR steps.
Faster, easier, more productive on Android.

How's that Facebook app on BB10 working? :rotfl:
Didn't realize there had been a poll about file managers, care to link to it?
Posted via CB10
Didn't mention a poll but the person I quoted claims the file manager on bb10 is so superior. And then mentions it's not important to average users.
And since BlackBerry had less than .5% of the market, I'd say that 99.5% of the market don't find this feature important enough to move to bb10 os.

Beat me to it lol.

Man you really have it in for me don't you. Can you show me in any of my posts where I stated or claimed "the file manager on BB10 is superior". I explicitly stated that android has perfectly fine file managers, some of which I have used including Astro and ES File Explorer. I have the latter on my old Playbook and it works great (for Playbook standards!). I stated above that I use a file manager probably much more than the average user. What the h$^l is wrong with that? If I have a Passport why would I download and use an android file manager of any kind when the device has a great file manager already built in. Some people just bi@&h for the sake of it. I think I have attracted one.
Probably because the file manager is not really exceptional or even really good. Just functional as I demonstrated with a step by step comparison.
And probably because you would question the need for another file manager.
Also you claimed Kalemsoft was great and has never failed you then you go on to say you rarely watch videos on your mobile devices. LOL. So you come across as a bit of a fanboy.

Ok so for starters he didn't say that the file manager on bb10 is better.
The marketshare percentage is only useful if file managers didn't exist on other OS's.... but they do.
People use file managers.
Again, if you don't think a file managers are used, try to imagine what the reaction would be if windows took out file explorer overnight from desktop windows.
It's not a sexy feature, but it's a useful one.

Oh they're useful. I never said that they weren't
But this thread is about ecosystem hype. About BlackBerry coming with what you need that the ecosystem is not all it's hyped up to be. And the file manager being used by him and others to justify that claim.
Obviously the stock file manager is functional, but there's plenty of room for improvement as I pointed out using a popular Android file manager. There IS a need for a good ecosystem because options are good and creates competition.

Fact is, because I have a Passport with a good built-in file manager (and I have very few android apps) I don't need another app for that purpose. I use Kalemsoft Media Player mostly hooked up to my 60" Sharp HDMI. The only mobile device that I watch video on is my old Playbook and yes, it too, has Kalemsoft which by the way (have I mentioned :D ) is a great app. I also beam video and music from my Passport to my TV and stereo (DLNA). As far as your fanboy comment, I do like BB10, but as I have stated on these forums before, my life is not going to end when BB10 ends. I have used Palm, HTC,and now BB. When it is time for me to move on then so be it. I will probably pick up an android device but I am open to all. I am definitely not looking for a slider so the Priv is out. Still waiting for you to point out where I said the File Manager was superior. Have a nice day :rotfl:
Well, he likes to make crap up so..........
What apps to you use to beam your music? What "box" do you use at the other end? Do you use a free streaming app like Google Play Music ? Did you have to sideload these apps to make them work? Do they work well?
BB10. File Manager. Q10:
-select first file with long press
-select "select more" from side menu
-click on other files
-press "copy"
-navigate and paste.
Five steps, not seven.
No app needed for that, just need a DLNA compliant TV/Stereo.
You forgot the step to acknowledge navigating to the target folder. It says that on my z30. On latest official update.
Also you need to pull up the menu again after finished selecting multiples.

They did. Blackberry lost about 99% of BB customers from the time of iOS until now. It was clear that something like BB10 was coming but it didn't for years. By the time it was available there was no need for it in the market.
