Many years ago I purchased a Blackberry 8820 from either kijiji or rfd (can't remember). The guy told me it was unlocked when I purchased it. I didn't care because I was on rogers and that was what the branding said. I used the phone for awhile and eventually swapped it for iphones and newer Blackberrys (z10 now ).

Anyway my work gave me a phone that is a real POS. Their service provider is Telus, and I tried inserting the sim in to the old berry. It fit fine but still says no sim card is installed.

So how do I ensure it is unlocked? If it is then I guess maybe the sim card isn't compatible?

youtube to the rescue. According to this my phone is unlocked because it says disabled beside all of the fields. I guess it must be the sim card. Perhaps they are not compatible.
