so guys, anyone with me? my Z10 fell in the toilet last night, for approx. 5 seconds. i took it out, and removed mem card, sim, battery. then toweled it off, and i think i made the mistake of powering it back on. it gave me the red LED, then blackberry logo, and then a BLUE SCREEN.. then OFF.. can't get it to light up any more...
    advice? is it dead?

    oh no!

Should have left it off and shoved it in the middle of some rice. I would still try the rice to see if it works for you. Good Luck.

When you drop a phone or any electronic device in water, the first steps you did correctly (taking out battery, SIM card, etc) but you should NEVER turn it on. My rule is immediately put the phone in a bag of rice and store it in a dry location for a few days. Allow the water to be evaporated to avoid causing electrical issues.
Since you did turn it on, my suggestion is to still try this method, but don't be surprised if your phone doesn't work afterwards.

Funny how most people posting here about their water adventures with their BlackBerry know they shouldn't turn it on before waiting a few days but do it anyway.

    A 400$ mistake for precipitancy. I hope I'm wrong.

I ha e envisioned doing this at some point in time. So I never use my phone whole standing at a toilet or urinal. Mainly because I don't want to drop it and secondly I don't want to have do the quick retrieval if it does happen.

I would suggest you really dry it out. I normally suggest using the oven in the kithen on 40-50 degrees to make the water evaporate faster.
The water may be stuck in small pockets/pearls, so give et a shake every 30-60 minutes to help it out.
If it does not work after 24 hours of drying it a clear sign to get a Z30 ;-)

it is most likely dead now, since you turned it back on and all the connections shorted out. sorry to hear but i dont understand if you are standing over the toilet, shouldnt both hands be in use?

Horrible suggestion. Excessive heat can damage the internal components. The best idea is a ziplocked bag of rice for a minimum of 48 hours.

The water alone that causes the problem with electronics.. it's the water that allows the electricity to flow from one circuit to another when it shouldn't that causes the issue.

Keeping it off until everything is dry will usually work (excluding things like possible corrosion)

Good luck hope you didn't mess it up..
Keep it in rice for a few days at least.
