If i am not mistaken that is why T-mo didn't take the bold right? They are still having the same issue?
T-Mobile just flat out rejected the Bold. I'm still angry at that. Also, take what T-Mobile reps say with a grain of salt. Most of the time they're either guessing or using information that we know from websites such as TmoNews (great site btw ). They're doing what they can to keep you as a customer, not give you correct info if the correct info would make you switch carriers.

If the Driftwood comes out in Q1 2010, I will be pissed but I will still buy it. T-Mobile needs to have a 3G BlackBerry out for the holidays.

If you look at all of their 3g devices none of them have this capability of hotspot calling. Does make me think that what perkyaim99 is saying is true. I am hoping that is not the case though.

They must be still having the same issue with UMA and AWS 3G not playing nice,at least on a consistent, dependable basis. That has to be why we haven't even seen a test unit in the wild. I say screw UMA.I understand it's value but if people need UMA then 3G won't do them any good anyway.T-Mobile needs a 3G BlackBerry out now.It was bad enough to lose a year by passing on the Bold but waiting until 2010 is ridiculous.

Unfortunately for Crackberry addicts such as ourselves, T-Mobile cares more about maximizing profit than getting a 3G Blackberry out the gate asap. They've already established that the MyTouch is going to be there flagship phone, at least for the remainder of 2009. Obviously if they release the 'Driftwood' any sooner than Q1 or Q2 of 2010, 8900 sales are going to take a dip way sooner than they would like. The majority of customers that I see come into my location a daily basis still have no idea what 3G is but more and more are beginning to consider picking up a Blackberry. That's why from a business perspective, launching the 8520 was genius. Low cost to T-Mobile, but is going to bring in much profit from existing customers who like the idea of having a Blackberry but don't wanna to break the bank. T-Mobile is beginning to pay more attention to it's more tech literate base, but by no means feels the need to cater to it, as it is a very small percentage of the overall customer base. That's why you see phones such as the Samsung Comeback and Samsung Highlight being released. Don't mean to be a damper, I want a 3G Blackberry to replace my 8900 just as much as the next person.
Well, I still hear it will be September but who knows. T-Mo is supposed to be up and running with 3G VERY soon now in the Milwaukee area so it would be nice to have a BB to go with it. Those other phones you mentioned are ok but nowhere's near high end devices. T-Mo maybe could stand to add another "Cadillac".

So far I'm very happy with my 8900. I do miss 3G speed (from my G1)(just a little) but the 8900 does pretty well on EDGE. If I spent more than 25% of my time on the internet then I would have kept the G1 or switched over to MyTouch.

When TMO does come out with a 3G BB, I'll be all over it.

I don't care about UMA too. If people want UMA then they can get the 8900. I am going to be pissed if I have to use the E71 I'm picking up for 6 months waiting for the Driftwood. I'm not saying that the E71 is a bad device but I'm expecting to use it as my primary for only 3 months at most. T-Mobile has already pissed me off greatly by refusing to pick up the Bold.

Now there isn't too much of a speed difference on the device because of RIM's servers. But streaming radio such as Pandora is effected by EDGE and tethering is effected greatly by EDGE. I can't use the HQ setting in Pandora without buffering every 20 seconds over EDGE. The speed difference between the 250 kbps from EDGE and the ~1 mbps over 3.5G is noticeable while tethering. Plus I need voice and data capabilities.

Sorry but those of us who live in a location with poor reception really need UMA for at home...but when we're out and about, 3G is what's required.

Note I heard the same rumor from a tmo rep - but I don't believe anything they tell me. For example, two of their so called Blackberry/PDA technical support people told me that I should keep checking the tmo web site in case they publish "new software" that will enable 3G on my old 8800 BB. I guess their interview process for tech support personnel could use some beefing up.

I wonder why they are having such problems. If HTC can release a 3G phone on WinMo with UMA, HTC Touch 3G, then why can't RIM figure it out for their own software?

I too am hoping for T-mobile to get a 3G blackberry, I've been considering making a switch from ATT. With Tmobile's 3G being so new.....I'd be worried I'd see the same performance issues I see now with ATT.

That's not the case. AT&T's 3G network crap due to the large number of customers (iphone users particularly) overwhelming the underdeveloped infrastructure. Their network is widespread tho it lacks in quality what it has in quantity. They have so many 3G devices on the network that in a densely populated urban city (NYC, Chicago, etc) the network takes a huge beating and often under performs or fails all together. Therefore, depending on where you live, you may not even be able to utilize the 3G network when on At&t and that's just sad since they advertise it as if was heavenly.

Tmo's 3G network, though young, in not as strained as that of At&t and i believed they maintain their network very carefully therefore you will actually be able to utilize 3G speeds where ever they are available, even in a city like NYC. Make sure you do a coverage check to see how tmo's 3G network is in your area. GL!

From a business standpoint, there is no reason what so ever for T-Mobile to release another high end Blackberry so soon after the 8900 and directly after the 8520.....**** we still have 8320s and 8120s to clear out of our inventory.
we need a 3G blackberry soon, or massive revolts shalt striketh thy bandwidthe wearth hurth

Don't worry, it's coming. Keven has posted pictures of the T-Mobile branded Driftwood, and three different reliable sources have reported it's going to drop in September. I am confident it's going to happen. The 8900 was only a rumor - right up to just before it came out.

Ok, um, it's Sept 23rd... When is this dropping again?

btw - TMO keeps texting my 8320 with a chance of a lifetime to get an 8520 for only $54. Let's see - basically do a lateral or even backward move for $54? TMO must have hired some govt people in marketing.

Driftwood is NOT the t-mobile Onyx. T-mobile gets the Onyx it has UMA and 3G and is identical to the at&t version except the bands it uses for 3g.
