    I have turned this option to "off" in settings and then accounts for one of my accounts. It is an account to which I receive mostly spam. Yet the garbage keeps coming.

    Does anyone know why this might be? It is a complete waste of data which can get expensive.

    Take the account off your phone.
    Problem solved.
    Save an account like for your desktop or laptop.

    Seems a little extreme. Sometimes there are messages I want. Mostly not. But if there is an option to prevent downloading while roaming, what is the reason it doesn't work?

    Perhaps the solution you recommend is the one I will need. But I would like to makes sure there is nothing else I can do first.
