Greetings new member here. As the title says, I am looking at downgrading my phone and my plan. Currently, I have the iPhone 6s and I don’t really need it all that much since I have a computer at home. Now the question is, I don’t know whether to get the Classic, the Q5 or the latest BB Bold. I like the Bold 9900, 9790 and the 9788.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Need more info....You looking to just make calls and email? No social net working? Are you downgrading or looking to go Old school?

Check to see if your carrier still has BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) available; without it the pre-BB10 devices would work just on WiFi.

I’m looking to downgrade and go old school at the same time

It seems probable that BIS will be shut down by the end of next year, so I would really recommend against the Bold or any BBOS phone. BB10 phones are less reliant on BB services and are more likely to be useful in 2020.

For the price, I suggest that your upgrade be Q5 as long as you don't need good GPS. Classic still too expensive for what you get.

So basically I should avoid BB Bold and Curve. I was thinking maybe the Q10? All I want is a phone for text and talk that’s it. After all, that’s what phones are there for.

    Take the Classic!

Bold 9900 was a great phone - but without bis you are really downgrading.

With Classic you still have Email, browser (if you want) and maps working.

Than again - as asked before - if you really wanna go old scholl (only text and calls), try the bold. I am happy to have used it with bis for some time.

I just spoke to my phone carrier, they support BlackBerry’s on their internet network. So when I chose to get a Blackberry, it’s going to work

This might be a better option for your needs:

If I go with Bold, would I still be able to do the security updates?

I like the Classic, but if I want to get a full touchscreen smartphone, mind as well stay with my iPhone.

The Classic feels heavy in the pocket. There’s the Q10 that I find attractive

The last update for any pre-BB10 device was in 2014, so all bugs and security holes are now features. As moribund as BB10 is it still gets patches once or twice a year.

Then BB Bolds and BB Curves are pretty much useless after the BB10. My options are either the Q10 or the Q20 (Classic)

The final update should be some time in 2019-20, given all of the shutdowns that have/will occur(red) between now and then. After that, it's in the same situation as BBOS and the PlayBook.

Having owned and used a Q5, Q10, and Classic, I find the Q10 hits the sweet spot between power and "palmability".

Each device has its strengths, but the Q10 comes closest to my ideal. User-replaceable battery is a huge advantage for an aging device. If battery performance degrades, it's super easy to replace. And it also comes in handy if you're low on juice, as you can swap in a fresh battery and be instantly back to 100%.

I also like having the USB port on the side rather than the bottom. Typing on the Classic while it was charging was difficult with the USB port on the bottom, as I prefer to rest the bottom of the device on my left pinky while typing.

Also, I didn't find the Classic's trackpad to be all that useful, as BB10 was designed around a touch interface and it was obvious BlackBerry added trackpad support after the fact. I found it to actually be more of a hindrance than a help in some cases.

With the Q5, I appreciated the deliciously clicky keyboard and the fact that the BlackBerry logo was below the screen, giving more room for the swipe gestures. I also had a red one, which looked great. However, it only has 8 GB of internal storage, so a micro SD card is a must. It also lacks a dedicated micro HDMI port - a feature I've found to be quite useful on my Q10.

All that said, only you can decide which device is the best for you. I've owned a Z10, Q5, Q10, Classic, Z30, Passport OG, and Passport SE, and the Q10 is my favorite of them all.

I agree with others who say it's probably best to avoid pre-BB10 phones.

Since I’m rushing to sell my iPhone, I’ll buy the Q10, and then sell my iPhone. Cause my original plans was to sell my iPhone, payout my contract balance and get a new plan with a BB phone.

Does the Q10 has the Google Maps, Google Pay, Facebook, Facebook messenger and the Mobile Banking apps?

No banking app and everything else requires workarounds to end up with apps that "sort of" work for now but maybe not much longer. To use bb10 and be truly happy one must be free of the the googla.
