    Hello.
Please help a nOOb! I am planning on buying a Storm 2 (9550). I am trying to find out if 3G will work in my country.

All i can find from my carrier is that it supports the following frequencies.

    GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 Mhz

Will that give me 3G speeds or is GSM only for EDGE?

    Thanksss

my country is PANAMA in CENTRAL AMERICA.

    carrier is CABLE & WIRELESS.

I know they offer 3G because my friends use it, I have seen it on their Bolds 9700. Also I know the storm 2 obviously supports 3G. Can I just add 2 and 2 together and assume it should work? Or does it depend on certain frequencies ? ? ? I am suspicious because they offer the bold 2 and 3 and new torch but no Storm.

    thanks

The 9550 only supports WCDMA/UMTS(3G) on the 2100MHz band.
Research In Motion BlackBerry Storm2 9550 Specs, Features (Phone Scoop)

C&W Panama supports 3G, but only on the 850MHz band.
Mobile World Live - Coverage Maps

I'm afraid you will only get EDGE(2G) with that phone in Panama.

On that note, I am going with the BOLD 9700. That 1 should work 3G for me right?

    BOLD 9700 BANDS
    Modes GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
    WCDMA 850 / 1900 / 2100
    (T-Mobile USA version has WCDMA 1700 & 900 in place of WCDMA 850 & 1900)

Providing it isn't an AWS Bold, you'll be fine.

It's an ATT specific one. You'll get 3G on it and EDGE on t-mobile.

    hmmmm....I really want the storm.

I was doing some research and it appears that the storm 2 has another version called the Storm 2 (9520) which is basically the same phone but made to work on GSM networks, so that should give me 3G.

    Is this correct?

Ok, just talked to my service providers at Cable & Wireless.

They said that they operate 3.5G on GSM 850MHz.

Does that mean that I can use 3G with the 9550? Or Can I only get 3G with 9520?

9520... I do believe that is the European modle of the 9530, which is identical except the CDMA chip is disabled.

    I think it doesn't support 850, but I can't confirm.
