    Hi
I was wondering if it's necessary to have an anti virus for your phone and if so, is there any ones available.

    Thanks

There is a very good reason you won't find anti-virus software for BlackBerry... And it is there are no viruses for BlackBerry.

Now, malware is everywhere so do not install apps from shady sources and make sure that the permissions an app asks for make sense. Why would a notes app with no location awareness need access to GPS? Or a packman game with no leaderboard would need your email?

But no. No antivirus. Nor need for one,

There are anti virus apps for BlackBerry 10 but it's a waste of money IMO.

The way dalvik is sandboxed I would assume that all the nasties won't be able to have any effect on the BB OS, but I have no proof to back up what I've said. This follows logical assumption. It may however be possible to infect other devices via direct USB connection, I suppose. Anybody to assist/correct my thinking? How about spreading the stuff via email?

It all depends on how you use your phone. Anything can get a virus even a BlackBerry phone.

I'd get antivirus if you sideload android apps.. otherwise you are pretty safe.

Let me fix that for you.

There are anti virus apps for BlackBerry 10 but it's a waste of money IMO.
And the reasoning is? Using android apps will make you catch a virus? That's the same as saying you can get AIDS by handshake (provided of course the person didn't slice his hand open to bleed on you).

No just b using android apps one can't get a virus. The same principle applies - you have to install and give permission to the malware - and one does that by installing stuff found all over the place.

    So stick to reputable sources!

I'd get antivirus if you sideload android apps.. otherwise you are pretty safe.

I haven't downloaded an antivirus for any platform is use (iOS, Android and BB10). I feel perfectly fine using all platforms without one.

Here is a list of antivirus apps available for BB10.

I bought MAX MOBILE SECURiTY native BB10 App, frequent updates but not sure if it works. Some report it found threats already, mine never found one, maybe because it don't use android Apps on BB10 until now lol.

It was 2.6? at Sale promotion, definitely worth to feel safer. It has also a MAX Security Private browser included. Not supporting Flash as far as I know, but looks not bad. I still prefer Evolution Browser for non Flash based websites. Feels more quick than the stock browser and has swipe to switch back and forward in websites, which is a very nice feature
