Now I'm not great with spreadsheets etc.. but I've found a template that I want to use when I open the file it works just fine but after i edit the file and save it. The spreadsheet doesn't open and I get a error saying it doesn't recognizes the file. Does anyone have any ideas?

Not to sure about your docs to go problem, however if you want to see if the file opens on the computer you should take a look at Open Office. It reads MS files.

Your XLS extension is your standard excel file extension. I would assume the xltx is the temple file.

When you open your template then attempt to save, do you click 'save' or 'save as'?

If you are clicking 'save' I'd look to 'save as', which then should adjust it to a working XLS extension.

When I save as, the file won't open at all and gives me a ssd error. Then with save, the file opens but gives me an option to reload previous information.

    No problem!

One of the parts of the file had some XML that was a bit different from what Excel typically saves out. Often times, I've seen third party editors have issues with that so I just cleaned up the XML to be more standard and documents to go seemed to handle it better after that.
