    I'm curious as to whether devs know when an app is sideloaded or not. This could help them, if they knew of the interest users have for their apps

    If the apps phone home then potentially yes.
    If the app uses certain requests that exposes the device information (a bit like how your user agent is sent to web servers when you visit a website) then yes again.

    Otherwise they won't have the download statistics they would get from the BBRY developer portal.
