So I have been playing on a few friends devices lately. Tablets and phones.
I was wondering something...did RIM invent the double space inserting the period? I seems that every device I have played with can do the double space.

Just a curiosity!

To my knowledge, I believe so. This was a feature on the early, early BlackBerry devices before those other platforms were around.

I don't know if they invented the idea but it was on my 7250 (with the scroll wheel) so it's been a while and well before iPhone.

I'd be surprised if that was the case. Both my Bold 9000 and 9700 had period buttons if I recall. I didn't even notice the double space thing until I started using touchscreen phones.

Well I'm glad 2 people on this forum learned something from this it comes in VERY handy when typing a lot.

I remember it back on my first bb, the 7100 too

Not as old, but I do know my 8300 had it. Just like hold a letter for capital, most devices don't do that, dose the Z10?

Since I haven't been able to get one yet.

Yeah holding a letter on the z10 also capitalises it.

Just to expand on what someone else said, double space period existed on my first berry, the RIM 850, and I had mine in 1999. Autotext existed then as well and was a big time saving feature.

I was late to the smartphone game and even later to BlackBerry, but this is one of the most used typing features for me. I don't know that I ever use the actual period key, just double tap.

Wait till you get so used to it. I try double spacing for periods on my computers from time to time. Its habit now haha.

Yes it does. Hold a key for capitalization and extra symbols too.

Just because there's a shortcut doesn't mean that they'd need to take out the key.

double space adds a period and capitalizes the next latter automatically. it would be annoying if you had to do that when you're using periods for something else (like as a decimal)

I was actually a Ericsson and SE fan before blackberry. First Ericsson for me was the t60. I know that didn't do it. Then I had the t610, t617, k700, s700, and one more but i forget which one. Then the palm 650, thennnn to the blackberry world I went
