    UPDATE 2

This is a very interesting transition from Business Insider in 2017 02 07 on Facebook:

    Attachment 417102

    Full article: http://www.businessinsider.com/best-...ckberry-priv-2

What could this "BlackBerry is back." mean?

    UPDATE

I'm getting a lot of new reviews of Passport in suggestions list on youtube for the the past month in 2017. It seems like BlackBerry Passport is gaining late attraction. Can it be because of its lately pricing?

"You may still see the "BlackBerry" name around. The brand's parent company, BlackBerry Limited (formerly Research in Motion) will continue creating BlackBerry software and will license out hardware development to partners, like TCL, but let us make no bones about it: Goliath has fallen".

I do get their point, we'll see how 'dead' it is.

Supposedly they would be referring to BlackBerry as a device manufacturer. However there is just as much talk about BlackBerry devices now as ever. Kind of ironic isn't it? I've said it before and I'll say it again - one of the cornerstones of Chen's strategy all along has been devices. Guess what? Still is. Software is quite useless without a host. Lol.

That's a great list of items, although you could argue that BB doesn't belong on the list. A fun read though.

I don't know why they don't belong on the list. As has been stated by BlackBerry, they will NO LONGER, design, manufacture, distribute, sell, market or support any new phone hardware. They will license the BlackBerry name and some software to TCL and a few other manufactures in select countries they will be monstly just licesnsing their name.

Hard to see how phones are a big part of their strategy. Looks to me like the main reason they talked about them in the last announcement was to promote the licensing deal with TCL.

The DTEKs signal the end of BlackBerry hardware. It's an Alcatel phone, not BlackBerry.

The software makes the device. Otherwise, a glass slab is a glass slab.

As BlackBerry has stated over and over, they are done with hardware. It's their software that they have licensed out to TCL and others.

I'll be surprised if Mercury is not a TCL phone with BlackBerry Secure software and firmware.

And the use of the BlackBerry name. TCL has an exclusive license for the BlackBerry name in many regions including North America and Europe.

Don't forget the Storm. That severely affected BlackBerry's relationship with Verizon and its customers.

Z30 is a powerhouse. Waiting to get my hands on a Passport to experience it. These are two phones that Blackberry should have stuck with and just improved. I do not think blackberry is dead. They are coming out with innovative phones, like the Mercury. Look at their competitor, not much has changed except maybe gotten bigger. I think blackberry is just getting started.
