Devs Confirm BlackBerry World Soon Accepting Android Apps
- Any app can be hacked even if it's to merely add a keylogger leaving the banking functionality itself along. This is why you need to get your apps from a trusted source such as the official app stores to at least minimize that risk. 1Mobile is not where I would be getting my banking apps from.

At least, with BB World apps, we might have some control. The other day I tried downloading the "AHA" app that can tie in with my new car. The darn app sought Permission to almost every aspect of my z10 including my phone number and phone and additional stuff. No control at all as to allowing or denying some or all of those Permissions. It is now UNinstalled.01-12-14 01:10 PMLike 4
- The title of the thread is somewhat misleading, in my view. As I suggested in an earlier reply, this article is at best further corroboration, not confirmation. Confirmation would have to be in the form of BlackBerry publicly stating that Android apps would soon be offered through App World. The way things stand now, even if we accept the report has absolute veracity (I have no reason to doubt it, but on the other hand, I have no way to confirm it either) since BlackBerry has made no public statement indicating Android apps will soon be for sale, BlackBerry could still decide not to go ahead with what the devs say BlackBerry is planning. In doing that (again if we accept the devs's version of events) BlackBerry would not be breaking any implicit contract with the public, and I am fairly sure that any agreements with devs are framed in such a way that devs would take the larger burden of liability if BlackBerry were to decide not to go ahead with Android. Just my 2-cent reality check, but I hope the report is correct and Android is coming! It would solve a lot of app-gap related problems.

PS .. I would prefer a BB device running an android
App over a android phone.

The bank would be liable should that happen . The millions of Android users of Bank Apps have not reported problems with their bank apps so basically I chalk this down to fear mongering.

I never said nobody should use these; I only said I wouldn't.01-12-14 02:19 PMLike 0 - sleepngbearRetired ModeratorI'm 100% with you here. I was thinking more about apps available on Google Play, or wherever these apps are coming from. I hadn't considered apps provided directly from the business itself, because I must admit I frankly don't know all the ways that Android apps can be obtained.01-12-14 02:25 PMLike 0
- Yes plenty of people running the leak are getting apps from 1mobile. Either that or their are plenty if people lying on countless threads. Some people are using 1mobile, some are using Amazon, some are using SNAP, and some are using combinations or all three.

- Wouldnt it a little more productive instead of arguing, someone who is able to, actually contact a dev at CES and confirm or clarify and actually speak with the source and see of they were contacts by BB. I'm sure there are lots of people on this site that have contacts with devs.01-12-14 04:47 PMLike 0

The only thing this information introduces is that developers will no longer need to convert to .BAR files BEFORE uploading to BlackBerry World. That's all it equates to. If no developer does it then you still have no apps or worst case, you end up with broken, non-working correctly apps.
Again, all they did was remove one step from the whole process that was already in place. No more porting.01-12-14 05:21 PMLike 0 - I thought the process of porting the apps to .bar format was also to get access to more native API (am I using that term correctly?), like media controls, running in the background etc? So far, up to .1925, I have never seen any direct .apk installed media players actually recognized as media players, and chatting apps can not run headless. With converted .bar files (the 'old' side-loading method) that did seem to work...I do not really care either way if we get .bar or .apk files to install, as long as they do make sure the apps can be run optimally. And as long as they can give the Android developers some incentive to make small adjustments to increase BB10 performance.01-12-14 05:51 PMLike 0

You actually have to modify the original Android app in some (or several) ways to make it fully integrate with BB10, that's why a lot of the ports in BlackBerry World currently do not run at their full potential. The developers just ported it as is and tossed it up on BlackBerry World. Skype is a bit of an exception as the version of Skype has actually modified to run on BlackBerry 10 and wasn't just a straight APK to BAR conversion. It actually has edits for BlackBerry 10 and can run in the background or make use of those API's.01-12-14 07:20 PMLike 0 - The post you linked to is pretty much the person agreeing with me and what I said. Everybody already knows it can run APK files directly. Far too much attention for something that was already known.

You keep bringing up the past but aren't pointing out that most android apps didn't even work before 4.2 and the unlocked runtime. Why would a developer have released their app if it didn't work before? Comparing now to what we had before isn't very fair.
Posted via CB1001-12-14 07:47 PMLike 0 - They do not want to spend extra programming hours (labor hours) to create a native application. It is understable from the developer's view.01-12-14 07:50 PMLike 0
