I have a data plan, however its limited to 500mb so i prefer to use my WIFI connection when i am at home. I have wifi setup and connected; however, how am i able to know if the device is using my data service of my wifi connection?

in browser if you see a wi-fi connection logo its on wi-fi some apps will use wi-fi and some wont best bet would be to manage connections and turn your network off when your surfing around but this would also shutdown voice calls

Or pop your SIM card out. Wi-fi works just fine without it. Oddly enough, the data will need to be turned 'on'.
