- I am currently on Verizon wireless and using a Z10. Before the Z10, I owned Android and iOS devices. I have 4GB of data plan and it is shared between my wife (Note 2) and myself. My question to those who were on the Z10 and switched back to Android or iOS is, has your data usage decreased any?
I have the Verizon app on my phone and very often monitor my data usage. I notice that I am using a lot more data then she is; approximately 75% of it. When I'm at work its generally 13 hr shifts and I am barely near a hotspot. I work 14 days a month and the rest of the time I am usually around my wifi. My wife works a 9-5, five days a week and is never around a wifi besides when at home.
I understand that 4G LTE is suppose to increase data usage and what not, but I feel when I had an Android or iOS my data usage was a lot less on 4G LTE. Does the Z10 hog down more data then the other two platforms? I am running 10.2.0.1725 OS. The main apps I use the most are CB, NFL mobile when checking my fantasy teams, banking app. I search the internet every so often as well and stream music when at the gym or when in the car and the local stations suck. My work email/personal email are set to my device as well. I am really tempted to just swap back to my S3 for a month to see how much data I use on it.
Has anyone experienced anything like this or is all in my head and that I am really just eating up data. I had Sprint prior to Verizon and was always keeping my device in use (streaming music/movies/shows) and I never ate up more then 3GBs. It was also on 3G when on Sprint, since their 4G LTE wasn't really available at the time, so could that have made a difference as well.
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!10-11-13 02:50 PMLike 0 - I am currently on Verizon wireless and using a Z10. Before the Z10, I owned Android and iOS devices. But I do use a LOT more data with my Z10. I have several accounts (five in total) in the hub that were not on my previous device. And I'm always syncing (only on wi-fi) with my box account. But mainly I'm using the device more... both Browsing and Apps that pull a lot of data like the NFL app. The size and speed of the Z10 make if a very usable device to access information from the web.10-11-13 02:57 PMLike 0 - There should theoretically be no difference in data usage between any smartphone running the same apps and being used the same. I don't think BB 10 consumes more or any less data than an iPhone for the same usage. 4G increases spread but the data consumption remains the same. The end user consumes more data due to the speed and ease of page downloads, not the 4G technology.10-11-13 03:38 PMLike 0
- I'm with AT&T and have the Z10. The 1st month I used about 1gb in 3 weeks, which was about half of what I used on my 9810. This month about 3 times as much with no considerable change. It seems the 4G LTE would use more than 4G, but this does seem to be too much. I do not understand why the 1st month was so low.

- I've watched my usage increase with a Z10 almost double. My 9930 used about 6-10gb per month, the Z10 16-20gb a month.
I attribute it to the LTE speed and doing more on the Z than the Bold. The OEM HDMI dock doesn't help my data for streaming to the big screen either. Lol.
I also believe the applications are more robust...just a quick example, Keep Calm is a third party application I would never had been able to go through on 3G at the same speed as 4G, and by speed I mean rapidly reviewing segments on the Site.
When I was using Android on VERIZON I had less usage, but that can be attributed to using my TMO BB more. [=10-11-13 07:13 PMLike 0 - And also, the data you used on your 9930 was compressed by your provider as you used a BIS connection.
Now your Z10 is connected as any other device like iPhone and Android which explains some of the extra data usage.
Obviously, if you use more your phone, it will use more data.
I am * really* surprised by the amount you use per month! I hope you have a suitable contract

Sorry, I didn't quote you in order to just contradict you, but is yours 'customised'?
I can only speak for a very limited number of people that I know and with whom I compare these things.
It should depend on what you do for sure... and it stands to reason that a html 5 browser would download more data.

This works per app for background data and total limit per set periods for over all data connection via phone I can monitor my data usage and see how close to the limit I am
I set my alerts
yes with bbry 10 you need bes 10 to limit data without a carrier app you cant tell when you hit the limit10-12-13 05:12 AMLike 0 - Yes the latest Androids have that granular - per app data limiting functionality.
To check my data usage I just go to my Carrier's webpage and check what I've used.
And the Z10 works perfectly well without BES.
It's certainly not a requirement or anything.
Z10 via CB1010-12-13 05:22 AMLike 0 - I think with the Galaxys it must depend on how you set out to manage data useage. My SGSII was quite heavy on the data prior to my rooting it and uninstalling anything I didn't need and then using a firewall. My mate gets less opportunity to use the (stock standard) SGIII and still uses far more than I do.

I averaged about 100mb a day on an Android, and on a wp8 (that's with streaming music, and videos, a little more when I netflix). Just email, browser, mapping , BlackBerry travel app, and cb forums. I have since performed a security wipe, but I'm not taking my chances with it until next month.

- Wow! I use just over that in a month now (although in the first month I used 3+gb).
I have Data and Analytics off, Location Based Services off and every Connect to BBM permission off (until I need it) ..as well as every non-essential app permission off also.
I use the browser (with Flash off), use some YouTube , CB and download podcasts and have some email accounts.
I don't use any of the big name apps though.
Does your Carrier's page give you a break down of the type of data used?

Assisted GPS can use your data unecessarily when not specifically required.
Also kill off certain app permissions until 'you' decide that they are needed.
Maybe lessening sync frequency and turning off data syncing - such as Contacts, Tasks etc on your individual email accts can help?
It must be something you can get control of.
I wish you luck, but persistence pays better!
